MrWonderful74’s A Theory Of Unfortunate Events!
Before I begin my Theory Of Unfortunate Events, let me warn you, that if you haven’t read all of the books, there will be many spoilers. I believe that I have solved a number of mysteries in A Series Of Unfortunate Events, and have a prediction as to how the series will end.
It all started in Book the First when the Baudelaire parents perished in an unexplained house fire. The children were at the beach when the incident occurred, and Mr. Poe rushed to the scene to inform the children. He was there rather soon… Possibly all TOO soon. There have already been numerous accusations from fans that Mr. Poe is, in fact, on the evil side of the schism, and is secretly planning against the Baudelaires, and I believe this theory is correct. Mr. Poe had been constantly placing the children with guardians whom Count Olaf associated himself with (in disguise), correct? Well, how is it that Count Olaf always knew where the children were going, and where exactly to find them? Surely he had an insider source? Could it have been Mr. Poe? I definitely think so. I think Mr. Poe intentionally misinterpreted the Baudelaire parents’ will “Place the children in the care of the CLOSEST relative” (Closest meaning blood related, not closest as in location). Bottom line, Mr. Poe is in on it all with Count Olaf, and he’s helped him along the way.
Now for quite possibly the biggest mystery of them all… What is the Sugar Bowl and why is it so important? As PJ had mentioned, the couple in TSS didn’t seem to care about the Sugar Bowl, but it meant the world to Count Olaf as well as the remaining good part of VFD (whom I believe are a Volunteer Fire Department). I believe that the Sugar Bowl contains evidence that Count Olaf is guilty of arson, and he wants to get to it before the Volunteer Fire Department does. Now, how did this evidence get into the Sugar Bowl in the first place? Lemony Snicket, of course! He must have filmed/recorded/documented/stolen something which would prove Count Olaf guilty without him knowing, and when Count Olaf found out about it, he wanted to kill Lemony Snicket! Unfortunately, he couldn’t find Lemony, as he is constantly on the run and in hiding… So he went after the next best thing… The love of his life: Beatrice. This would explain Beatrice’s death and Lemony Snicket’s dedications at the beginning of each book, and constant mentions of her throughout the books.
Come Book the Thirteenth, I believe that the Sugar Bowl will have been found by the Volunteers, Count Olaf will be found guilty and one of the children will indeed die (the most likely candidate is Sunny, as whenever Sunny undergoes hardship in the book, Lemony says "Sunny was safe this time" or something along the lines. I believe Mr. Poe's loyalty to the evil side will be revealed, and he will likely also die in the end. There will be a huge ending with Count Olaf, his troupe, the Volunteers, Lemony Snicket, the White Faced Women (who left Olaf in TSS), the Baudelaires, Mr. Poe, and possibly a few other minor characters in the book. It is very possible that when the Volunteers find the Sugar Bowl, the White Faced Women will help prove Count Olaf guilty as well.
This is what I’ve uncovered. In a nutshell, Mr. Poe is working with Count Olaf (or the evil side of the schism), VFD means Volunteer Fire Department, the Sugar Bowl contains evidence that Lemony had gathered, and Count Olaf found out about the evidence, and when he couldn’t get his revenge on Lemony because he couldn’t find him, he went after the one thing that meant the most to him… Beatrice. Also, I believe Count Olaf will be found guilty in the end, possibly facing prison time or the death penalty, the children will meet Lemony Snicket, whom will possibly be their new guardian, and there will be a huge ending with nearly every (living) character we've ever encountered.
I think I have a lot of relevant points, which may in fact be true. Let me know, leave some comments, feel free to add on.
