They could go with a kind of gold, or possibly a silver. Or a bronze. That would work, because the last book in a series is always special, so it could be special looking.

I think the picture looks better on our book then the American one

Actually, LargeManFeOrMale, I do think you have a point. The colours just seem to clash slightly on the American layout, but I think it looks quite good on the U.K. layout.

Isn't this a bit superfluous to... That thread I can't find... Oh, whatever. I'd like to talk about it too, anyway. I think that flame-orange is pretty much mandatory for this book. Perhaps they could vary the contrast between the base colour and the thorns... I think we're probably looking at a slightly darker shade than TMM, but nothing like the red of TBB. And I see the number on the spine being a lighter yellow-orange. Also, I agree that the covers will probably be different, but perhaps not very different. Either way, I think that all three bellhop!Baudelaires will be on the cover. I guess that those of us getting the U.K. edition won't really have any idea what to expect. I really like that. I guess B12 is just going to be a complete surprise in so many ways. I agree you'll probabley get the same colour book as us North Americans.

I sincerly hope that the covers for Book 13, will be different. I was dissappointed that the covers were both the same this year.

I was a little disappointed that the illustrations were exactly the same (the only book that's previously done this is TVV), Just thought that I'd mention that if you study the two covers closly, you'll see that they are slightly different: 1) Klaus' face is different in the U.K. version, he looks like he's screaming more. 2) His hair on his forehead curls slightly more in the UK cover than in the US one. 3) His right arm (the one not holding onto the ladder) is at different angels on the two covers. 4) One of the crows on the left of Klaus is in missing, and the other is in a slightly different position. 5) The crows to the right of Klaus are in slightly different places. I think that the UK cover was drawn again by Brett Helquist, but most of the cover was kept the same. www.freewebs.com/vile_village_covers/vv.jpg

That's true, actually. It was mostly likely a re-paint (I'm sure I read somewhere that Helquist paints the covers). I'd like to think that the U.K. cover of TPP was a re-paint, too, but it probably wasn't - I'd have to have an actual copy of the U.S. cover to compare, as any scanned or photographed versions might not be of sufficient quality. I can see why they might have done it, though - so that Mystery Three on TheNamelessNovel.com is relevant for both British and American readers.

Yeah, your right. The first thing I thought when Mystery Three started was "but what about the U.K. cover? Where will they show that?". I suppose it would be too much hassel to run a UK and a US nameless novel website, so they kept it the same.

I am also dissapointed that the cover is the same for both U.S. and U.K. It has always been kind of fun to have two different covers to look at.

Hm. Technically, you're right - I don't think UnfortunateEvents.com (technically the official British site) ever mentioned TheNamelessNovel.com. Regardless, I regard TheNamelessNovel.com as being for both the Americans and British. And the Egmont thing was really a competition - it didn't give out any information.

Does anyone know why the border flames are blue?

Does anyone know why the border flames are blue? No idea. But I have two guesses: 1. So that it fits with the colour of the number on the spine. 2. So that it fits better with the spine colour. 3. They're, uh, chemical flames. From chemicals. So, the obvious conclusion here is: I sometimes come up with more items half-way through a list.

It's probably so that it doesn't clash so much, which they failed to do on the US edition. It is also because blue and orange are complementary colours.
