Evidence against The Penultimate Peril
1. Either one could be a red herring, but The Penultimate Peril does not fit the 9-letter, 5-letter pattern on lemonysnicket.com.
2. It also doesn't follow the pattern of the last word being a place. (Although, TBB didn't either.)
3. TPP has been used before if you count The Perilous Parlor Game (which also repeats the word Peril, in a sense).
4. TPP has been used in pop culture too. MTV's The Real World used it as an episode title. Of course, slippery slope is also a somewhat commonly used phrase, too.
5. TPP was even suggested on unfortunateevents.com's forum back in March. Since lemonysnicket.com is linked to ue.com, and is a somewhat official site, I don't think LS would use any title guessed on it.

What if he already had the title before that? You know it is possible that someone actually guessed the title right...

I'm slightly dubious about this title because of the blank-space thing on LS.com.
And it's just a pretty boring title, and I'd expect Snicket to save a title involving a concept rather than a location for last(because the only other book with such a title was TBB)

I agree. I personally think that it's a pretty rubbish title, if it's real. I didn't want to see any more time-reference titles until the very last book. Some of the Lobby/Foyer suggestions we were coming up with were much better. I'm hoping that it's just a placeholder title or something, but I guess there isn't much hope. I guess that's the surprise ruined, then.

I'll certainly be disappointed with Handler, and probably go outside and yell to the skies "O Laughing God Daniel, I know you can think of better titles than that!". Something like that... I concur with Dante's hope that this is a placeholder, possibly someone's random guess.

I've just gotten confirmation from someone who works in a bookstore and has seen the actual cover. The title is real. ls.com's 9-letter, 5-letter blanks are wrong/fake/red herrings.

*blasphemes the Laughing God Handler under her breath*
At least the cover's really nice, which I think kind of makes up for the dull title. And the book will be quite good, from what we've heard.

Actually, it was me. I'm the one with the friend who works in the bookstore. Gigi and I have been PMing each other about the morality of revealing the secret. As a result of our talks, Gigi put up the poll thread, "Would you peek?" I decided not to reveal the title here even though I found out today from my bookstore friend (mainly because I didn't know if she might get in trouble for it). So, I wasn't the one who leaked it, but I am the one who confirmed it.

I feel OK about it because I wasn't spoiled here. I figured it out from the initials, spending a happy time with my friend making guesses. I do feel bad for those of you who were spoiled by being told straight out.

It's called "The Penultimate Peril"? Or is it something else? Am I missing something here?
