I love Carmelita's new phase of being a tap-dancing ballerina fairy princess veterenanian or a ballplaying cowboy superhero soldier pirate- it's brilliant. You won't have much of a chance to love it--she died in the fire. Or implied to have died.

I'm trying to figure out some of the new Sunny words.
"Efcharisto"(pg 186) is apparently some word for "thank you" although annoyingly I can't seem to figure out what language it is.
"Galimatias"(can't remember what page) is just another word for "gibberish".
I rmember reading someplace that "Poppycock", used on page 243, literally means "soft dung". Again, I'm not sure what language it's from.
It's fun when Sunny uses obscure/foreign words, although I like how she's now using nearly-complete sentences as well.

The "greatness" quote in Chapter One is from Albert Camus, and I believe that the "right temporarily defeated" is Martin Luther King. "The perpetual struggle for room and food" is from a pessimistic political economist named Thomas Robert Malthus, and the boys-stones-frogs quote is from a Greek poet called Bion.
I can't remember where the hook-handed villain battling SSHAMH quote is, but it definitely exists, as I remember that I was seriously confused when it turned out that Fiona and Fernald had defected from Olaf.
And it was slightly depressing that there weren't any truly noble volunteers, and that Olaf was right. Although that's actually what I like about these books.
And I've... forgotten the other important thing I was going to say.
Edit: I remembered it - or something, anyway. Good thinking, Flaneur, on figuring out that the identity of the taxi driver was the taxi driver. I didn't think Lemony was a smoker, either, but the sandwich changed my mind.

"Poppycock" means nonsense.
EDIT: I just realized that's the definition given for Sunny--well, that's the actual definition for the word, too.

"One can remain alive long past the usual date of disintegration if one is unafraid of change, insatiable of intellectual curiosity, interested in big things, and happy in small ways" is a quote from Edith Wharton.

Wonderful book.
That's all I can say. Anyway, someone said the Baudeliares are getting "more villainous." I don't think they're getting villainous. I mean, they did try to tell everyone about the fire, but nobody listened.
Also, I thought it was weird how the Baudeliares are now basically back at square one. (Back in Olaf's clutches, that is.)

Ok, well, i havent really read every post from all 5 pages so what im saying might have been discussed already.
Well, Charles, Mr Remora, Mrs Bass, and Mr Poe, are obviously noble people i think, at least their not villanous, and Sir and Nero are definetely villanous but none are members of VFD. I think the guy in chapter 10 was Lemony, and Lemony was following them in a taxi in chapter one, as you can guess from the book. The guy in the taxi (who could be Lemony) is definetely driving away from the Hotel with the sugar bowl. Where hes taking it i have know clue. Now, for the picture at the end of the book, what is the clue for book 13. I think it is the flock of bird on the right that depicts Oalf's eagles.

Well, its never too early to start book 13 discussion, so heres what i think.
I think the title will be The Fatal Finale. This was one of my theory's before we got the title of TPP, and now since Lemony made the book 12 title mean "next-to last" then he'll probably do something about "last" or "end" and Fatel Finale sounds pretty good. The Bauds and Olaf will probably land on an island where theyll meet the Finnish Female Pirates as hinted in TBB:RE, and they'll end up on Briny Beach. Thats all i got for now.

what an ending, wow.
Sunny was going to say andiamo in the indian resturant but didn't. Andiamo is and italian word for "We go"
and when they met olaf in the lobby lemony said that this was the penultimate time the would meet him. then they met him at the trial, so they will be with Olaf till the end.

I wish we would have seen Sir's face though, ive always wondered what it looked like.
And did the Baudeliare parents kill Olaf's parents with poison darts? I suspect so, and thats probably why Olaf became evil and eventually burned down thier house, and why he hates the Bauds so much.

Good book -great book actually. Nice beggining, good middle and a wonderful ending! So, the Baudelaires are with Count Olaf again. It makes me wonder how the next book will end. What is it the Baudelaires are now searching for? The Snicket File did not relate to the Bauldelaire orphan's parent but of Quigley. So they are not searching for there parents. The sugar bowl is in the middle of the pond and they knew it. So they are not searching for the sugar bowl.
In other books, such as the "Harry Potter" series -this question is easily answered. The main character is searching to kill his enemy -Voldemort, and bring the wizarding world to peace. Yet what do the Baudelaires want?

The man in the taxi might have driven away with the sugar bowl, not the "still damp object" on his passanger seat. What are the Baudelaires looking for? There obviously in alot of trouble and cannot get out of this unscathed, thats what will make book 13 so interesting.

I think the Baudelaires are just searching for a place where they can be safe, and noble people. One possible, but grim, ending is that the Baudelaires become villains because like Olaf, they've lost their parents and been through a lot of suffering. Or conversely, Olaf will turn out to be noble, but that'd be disappointing.

Will the Bauds every see Kit and the Wuags again? I really dont think so, they more than likely saw the smoke from the Hotel and knew the meeting was canceled. The Quags might not have even survived their encounter with a giant fly swatter. And i think the bauds will more than likely end up on a remote island.

I'm sure we will see the Quagemire's again. It wouldn't surprise me if Count Olaf does turn "noble" however, what with his remarks about Klaus and Violet's skills. Again, it'd be nice to see the one to stop Count Olaf being Esme -nice sort of twist to there relationship!
