Actually, it's hard to tell from that scene in TEE if the Baudelaires know who Beatrice is or not. Klaus never finished his sentence, so we can't tell if he was wondering who Beatrice was or merely what she had stolen. (I originally thought that for some reason the Baudelaires didn't know their parents' first names, but that's disproven by the flashback in TPP in which the Baudelaire mother refers to the father as Bertrand.)
And I still wonder why the Baudelaire parents found it necessary to kill Olaf's parents, rather than merely capturing them. Even if the authorities wouldn't do a thing against these villians, was it really necessary to murder them?

Even if the authorities wouldn't do a thing against these villians, was it really necessary to murder them? Has interesting echoes for the sinister duo, that... As we now know, there is no higher court to which the High Court can be held accountable. What does one do in such a situation? Allow villainy to run rampant? It's a difficult situation, but then again, we don't know why the Baudelaire parents killed Olaf's parents, and indeed, we don't even know what Olaf's parents were like. Although an idea that's just occurred to me was whether the Baudelaire parents knew they were poison darts, or merely thought they were stun darts or something. That would excuse them somewhat, although the whole story is still incredibly suspicious.

I was also wondering if the poison darts were really just tranquilizer darts, or the parents thought so. It would make some sense to use tranquilizer darts if they were merely trying to capture Olaf's parents, and there was no other way of dealing with them. I guess if corruption runs rampant, and the High Court can't be trusted, noble people must resort to desparate and sometimes villainous tactics.

True, so very true look at what happened to the Baudelaires . Another reason why Beatrice could not be the Baudelaire's mother is that when Kit was describing the Baudelaires mother and Beatrice, she was describing them as two different persons, rather that the same person.

I've sort of gotten the feeling that Count Olaf didn't have any family...Maybe he turned into a bad person because he's an orphan?

The only problem with that theory {that the Baud parents didn't know the darts were poisoned} is Kit Snicket clearly calls the darts poison darts p9 TPP so unless she is an incredibly dastardly villain who tricked the Baud parents it can't be the case.
