Do you agree that Captain Widdershins is "A series of unfortunate events'" best character?

1. Explain your reasons for liking Captain Widdershins.
2. For future reference, threads on specific characters, especially if they're saying "This character is best etc." go in Cheerless Characters. Which is where I'm moving this.

Well, he's a really fun character, but he should have told the baudelaires about the sugar bowl and/or the other submarine. But i think the next time we hear about him, he'll be dead. or he'll find his wife. I hope the latter.

No offense but I don't really like Widdershins. He kind of seems like the useless adults whose purpose in life is just to drive you around.

Yes, he was a bit annoying, but he's the first full adult member of the V.F.D. the Baudelaires have spent a considerable time with. He shed a little more light on the organization and revealed many more mysteries. I'd say his character carried the book. Unfortunately, I think his going off with the mysterious swimmer was a fatal mistake and we won't see him alive again.
