Since you've brought up the "typo" from TPP, I want to bring back my theory about that.
On page 93, we find the sentence "But she knew that she could not not hope for a calm and peaceful hush in the chaos of Hotel Denouement, and so rather than remain silent she answered the manager's question as best she could." That sentence has a double negative that is unnecessary. It only needs one "not" to make sense.
Then the siblings typo is on page 229. "'Please" Sunny said, joining her sisters." Obviously, the word should be "siblings".
I think we could put those two typos together and Lemony Snicket has concealed a message for us: "Not siblings" That's my theory, anyway. The trouble is that there are so many sets of siblings in the series, that I don't know which ones he is referring to.

...people read so deeply into things. Like, ohmygoodnesstheremustbeahiddenmessageineverythingalways. It's strange.

I know. I know. And I could be wrong. One typo is easy to excuse, but when there are two so glaring like that, it leads me to believe it has deeper meaning.

That's a really cool observation. Although it could just as well be "not sisters" as well right? the code could be "collect the wrong words" OR " put what it should be" like what you got. "not sisters" would be more specific to sunny and violet who were the ones involved in the typos in the first place. I'm just sorta using your hard to find mistakes theory and turning it around for myself. All credit for these ideas to Gigi who did all the hard work for it first;)

There was no hard work involved. Grammar mistakes like that just jump out at me.
But these first pages that were leaked didn't have those grammar mistakes. We should really get back to them because that's the topic here.

Interestingly, the original two sites seem to have removed the first chapter excerpt, so the only places that these few pages can now be found is on fansites that picked up the news. You can interpret this two ways:
1. They're fake, HC found out they were giving out fakes and had them removed; 2. They're real, HC found out they were giving out the real first few pages too early and had them removed.
Your guess is as good as mine, but if they really have gone and it's not just that I can't find them anymore, then I imagine that would swing people in the "fake" direction.

Aha! They were caught in their deceit! That just swung the ball the other way, leading me even more to think that it was fake.

Yes. Fake.
...I hope.

If it was real, you would think that the big book companies like Amazon and B&N would have picked them up by now.

Well about the 170 chapters, the notes in TBB Rare Edition could count as another chapter

a valiant (and not too shabby) attempt at reproducing snicket's literary style, but...somehow, i just don't think it's genuine.

I meant to unsticky this yesterday, but I forgot, so I'm doing it now.
Anyway, because the evidence is now leaning slighly, in its ambiguity, towards "fake," and because we've pretty much all seen it, and because there's not much more to be said, I'm unstickying this. However, it will remain a SPOILER topic and you should not discuss the contents of this thread outside of this thread, because we still have no official word on whether it's real or fake, and we don't want to take risks.

All I know is 170 chapters has been mentioned. And I did hear the bit about the 170 chapters and tears in your eyes before, so I'm inclined to believe it.
By the way, do you really think an aSoUE who wrote that well enough to make it sound like Snicket wouldn't know what 13 x 13 was?
EDIT: The way to find them online (which btw is only on the fansites now) is to take the first line or so, from Dante's writing, put it in quotes, and search for it on Google.
