That's right. I've been arguing since about January of 2004 that Beatrice is in fact Mrs. Baudelaire. And after abouth 5 threads where I was forced to repost my entire document's worth of evidence and argue with at least 15 people who thought my theory was nothing more than rubbish, I've won. That whole passage in tgg doesn't matter, those red herrings don't matter, all those people who passionately argued that I was 100% wrong are themselves 100% wrong as I bask in my moment of glory. *basks*
Sorry, I'm not normally an arrogant person but after 2 3/4 years of supporting this theory without wavering I felt I was entitled to post this.
Besides, Dante said it was ok. Reply, yell at me, agree with me, bask with me if you supported me, whatever. Or of course you could let this thread die like all the other Who is beatrice? threads.

Yes I do think you deserve some sort of recognition. I feel rather stupid though, because for the whole first year of the BEatrice Who is She What Do We Know deal, I was pro-Kit for Baudelaire's mother, then after TGG I was pro anyone but Beatrice, and now sadly I have been officially defeated.
But good on you Jacques, way too stick it to the cynics.

Well, despite text inconsistencies in TGG and TPP that disproved thsi theory, I guess it was right after all.
I think it was actually a bit too predictable... I was expecting Snicket to give us something totally unexpected, but really, Beatrice being the mother DOES explain a lot...

Yes Sora you were indeed one of the ones I argued with. You put up a good fight. Yes those inconsistencies were confusing but I ignored them and it ended up paying off. And for some, this obviously WAS unexpected so... *shrug*

I converted to Beatrice/Baudmom after TPP and even came up with explanations for the inconsistencies which I put in fanfictions.
1. The "Baudelaire parents" in the TGG quote are Bertrand's parents. 2. Beatrice survived dying immediately in the fire that morning, dying in the afternoon instead.

I firmly believed that they were two different people until TBL. I publicly admit that I was wrong and Jacques was right. Congratulations.

I, too, was a "Beatrice Is Baud Mom" naysayer. I based my argument on an interview question on The Unofficial Lemony Snicket FAQ (which seems to have been mysteriously hacked, or perhaps removed by its author). The question was, "Is there any truth to the rumor that Beatrice is the Baudelaire orphans' mother?" Daniel Handler's reply was, "Some truth, but not total truth." I put my faith in the honesty of the FAQ site author. (Or, I suppose, DH could have been deliberately misleading us.) Drat!
Congratulations, Jacques. I'm still looking forward to winning our argument on the "Good Snape/Bad Snape" debate. We shall see!

The "some truth" could be because Beatrice is technically the Baudelaires' daughter (aswell as their mother).

Um yeah the whole thing with the unofficial faq was quite weird. EIther there is a sick minded hacker out there who brought it down and thinks he is Count Olaf, or the owner got bored and went out with a bang- or whatever.

I thought Beatrice was their mom from the start, but sometimes I kind of thought otherwise. Nonetheless, Snicket still has more to explain besides Beatrice.

Ha ha! Nice one. I haven't been around for long enough to witness the arguments themselves, but I can taste the sweet sweet victory from here.
I wasn't sure. Thought it might have been Kit, until the end of TGG of course, but I was always open to the possibility, and the whole thing about the afternoon/morning thing is probably just a Handler inconsistency. Anyway, kudos. I don't know what that word means really, but it seems appropriate.

W00! I, too was one of the few Beatrice = Baudmum theorists.
Aaah, I remember as a lil' newbie, reading through those huge threads that Jacques and the others used to have, and being very frustrated pretty much everything I wanted to say had already been said and answered.
But yeah. W00 to us.

Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. Oh yes Dairy we still haven't wrapped up that argument have we? I remember those old threads well. I began compiling evidence so I, as a newbie, would look smart in the first such thread I encountered. But then they kept dying and then people kept posting more and I had to keep cutting and pasting the same evidence into new threads. It seemed to inspire spirited debate and furious argument everytime. Nevermind that it'd already been posted before. But yeah. There are lots of inconsistencies, but those abound everywhere, not just in this particular debate.

I think there are a particularly large amonunt of incosntistencies in the Beatrice = Baudmom case. But ah well. It ties the whole series together, I suppose.

What is Rock referring to in his first point though? What comment in TGG? ...and [Captain Widdershins] was wrong to insist, as he did so many years ago, that a story in The Daily Punctilio was completely true, and to show this article to so many volunteers, including the Baudelaire parents, the Snicket siblings, and the woman I happened to love.(Page 310-311)
