Who do you think burnt down the bauldelaires mansion because soemthing tells me after reading the end it wasn't count Olaf and looking at shocking secret number 4 'Lemony Snicket is wanted for arson' makes me think it was possibly him. Then again something else makes me think it was kit snicket.
Am i crazy???

Just because he was wanted for arson doesn't mean he committed it. And Kit...?
I think it was the man with a beard but no hair, and the woman with vice versa.

I thought it was Esme. It would be easy for her seeing as she could sneak through the passageway. Or if she was the guest over.

I'm thinking the sinister duo or Esme. I guess it would be Esme because of the passage, but we don't know if she had access to it then. Hm. I thought it was Esme and Olaf but after The End I'm thinking it's not Olaf.

If I remember correctly, Lemony once mentioned how there had been a guest at the mansion and they were leaving unsightly rings on the wooden table because they didn't use coasters, so whoever it was had been a guest. It could have been any treacherous person, but I think it was one of the mysterious duo. (or both)

I firmly believe it was Esme for the following reasons:
1. In TVV and THH Snicket brings to light several situations where he and Beatrice crossed Esme. In TVV he states he remembers when Esme first met Esme at a cafe in the city and in THH he states he wish(es) I(he) had not stolen that sugar bowl from Esme Squalor Clearly she would have some sort of grudge, and she solidifies it it in
2. The TEE Esme quote where she tells the Baudelaires that I'm(she's) going to steal from you (them) the way Beatrice stole from me(her)!
Then there is 3. The passage between Esme's house and the Baudelaires', which of course is where most speculation lies. This is likely the place where the fire started, so we can say that someone on the other end started it. Jerome had never seen Olaf or anyone that looked similar to him before he becomes Gunthar, so I can only assume that it was Esme who burnt the house down.

I continue to like my old theory that, while Olaf was at the mansion that day confronting the Baudelaire parents, the fire was started by accident and Olaf himself was the survivor. Esmé can still have had a role by blocking off the fire escape, although by just generally making it a no-go area rather than specifically on that day. I think any villain would have an interest in seizing control of such passageways.
