In my edition of TE, the 'About The Author and Illustratur' (before Chapter 14), there's a cartoon picture of Snicket and a real picture of Helquist when it's usually the other way around. Is it purposely this way? Post here if it's the same with your copy.

I think it was done deliberately to reinforce the impression that the end of Chapter Thirteen is not the real ending of the story of The End; there's more to come after. That's why, after Chapter Fourteen, the usual order is restored. It also makes an interesting change from the usual, just for once.

Of course that was done on purpose. As to what the purpose is, I don't know. It could have been arbitrary - maybe they just wanted to interchange the pictures.

Well, the french editors decided it was an error and interverted the two pictures. Idiots.

Ouch. That's crazy. They actually matched the Helquist photograph to Handler's biography and the Handler illustration to Helquist's biography?
That sure beats the British publishers printing the Handler photograph as the Chapter Two illustration... and then skipping the last three full-page pictures. Just.

They might have thought that as it was the last book, they decided to show Snicket's face. The illustration of Snicket does show him rather out-of-character, enjoying himself and relaxing, to boot.

I think it was more of an eye-trick, something so that when you flip the page and see Brett Helquist's photograph you think it's Lemony Snicket- for a brief second.
