From Wikipedia: "Rowling drafted the last chapter of the book several years ago, to give herself an ending to work up to. The last word of the last chapter of the book was said to be scar, according to Rowling in a 1999 interview."
In anticipation of the release of Book 7, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and to give us something to do while we’re waiting, I’ve devised and posted a contest (with the approval of Jacques, the moderator).
Your task is to write your version of the final sentence of the final book of the Harry Potter series.
Rule 1: Your submission must be one complete sentence which ends with the word "scar."
Rule 2: A prize will be awarded in each of two categories: (A) Most Humorous, and (B) Closest to the Actual Sentence written by Rowling. Please designate your entries (A) or (B).
Rule 3: Only one entry per person in each category will be considered for the prizes. For contest purposes, this will be the first entry that you post in each category. In other words, you can post more than two "final sentences," but only your first post in each category will be considered for the prize.
Rule 4: The contest opens today, June 30, 2007, and closes at midnight Central Daylight Time on July 14. The eligible entries will be judged, and winners announced a few days after the release of HP:DH (depending on the availability of the judges after July 21.)
Judges will be Jacques, Gigi, and me (Dear Dairy). Prizes will consist of a cornucopia of Harry Potter stuff that I’ve collected over the years (OK, the prize is mostly inexpensive giveaway stuff. This is really just intended to be fun, anyway.)
I hope we get lots of entries. Have fun speculating, and I hope YOU win!
Sample entry:
(B) Laughing malevolently, Lord Voldemort gazed down upon the twisted remains of Harry Potter and his famous lightning-shaped scar.
MAJOR EDIT: In view of recent information which says that the final word is NOT "scar," Rule #1 has been amended as follows:
Rule 1: Your submission must be one complete sentence. Entries that are more than one sentence will be disqualified.
(The last word of your entry does NOT have to be the word "scar." If you have already entered using the word "scar" and wish to change it, you can go back and edit OR just write another entry.)
In an effort to get more entries, Rule #3 has also been amended as follows:
Rule 3: Enter as many times as you wish. However, only one prize will be awarded per person.
(In other words, if you win Category A, you cannot also win Category B.)
If you have questions, please PM me.
