He was smitten with Gellert Grindelwald; that, according to JK, is his greatest tragedy.

Okay...
For those of you struggling to understand this...
2,000 lucky fans had the opportunity to interact with JK Rowling this evening at Carnegie Hall. The reading was rather eventful, as Jo revealed a lot of new information previously unknown about the series.
The most notable news of the night was the revelation of Dumbledore's sexuality. Jo says Dumbledore was gay and in love with Gellert Grindelwald. JK, in response to the audience's reaction, said "If I had known this would have made you so happy, I would have told you years ago."
Not quite as head-turning, but equally significant, Jo announced Neville Longbottom's marriage with Hannah Abbott. Hannah became the new landlady of the Leaky Cauldron.
Other heart-warming (ha!) news was revealed about Petunia Dursley. The night Harry left Privet Drive, Petunia wanted to tell Harry, "I know what you're up against and I hope it turns out okay."

I hate how she said stuff about Hannah Abbott but not Luna. Everyone cares more about Luna. ;-;

Even though I know this is not the case, but were did Dumbledore have any other secret motives during his private meetings with Harry?

I flipped out when I read this on Wii news, and proceeded to send it to every Harry Potter fan I have the e-mail address of. I seriously never would've guessed.

I know. Personally, if I were her, I would have left the entire thing up to the reader's imagination. I mean, she's now lost millions of religious/republican readers if she ever publishes again. Even though I'm both, I'm completely pro-gay. However, some people aren't as understanding. Therefore, I just think it was a bad move. Seriously, if it wasn't written down, it's not really cannon. Like, Snicket could come out and say that Count Olaf secretly loved going on dates with german shepards.
What I'm trying to say is I just think she's trying to stir up controversy to up the sales of her dead series.

Ahaha. Go look at the catagories for Dumbledore's wikpedia page. "Fictional LGBT characters | Fictional gay men "

I couldn't believe it when my friend S called and told me. Wow.
But yeah, it is a bit of a stunt, I think. Plus, she's going to lose so much popularity
But yzay, tolerance in great children's literature. (:

It wasn't just on wiki, I saw it on Newsweek. I'm actually sort of mad now. No one cares that Dumbledore was gay. Well I mean I guess people care but she can go and admit he's gay and not even address Remus/Sirius? I mean if shes going to out one character she might as well go all the way especially since theres so much more subtext between Remus and Sirius. So I'm sort of glad this proves she was willing to have a gay character even if she didn't say anything about it. But I'd much raher shove the fact that Remus and Sirius were love in with each other and I knew it all along in their faces then this thing with Dumbledore.

lots if people make Potter Puppet Pals videos in which Dumbledore is gay (though way before JKR actually said he was gay).

Good lord, why do people hunger for this? People of the same sex can be friends without homosexuality, there's as much evidence that Remus and Sirius were gay as there is that Frodo and Sam were gay and that's obviously not the case.
And yeah, I think this was a bad move. I don't especially care much, but lots of people will and it will give annoying fundamentalists even more weight in their book burnings. I mean, there was really no point to her revealing this.
