As of now the release date is closer than I could've imagined: November 21, 2008! The director is David Yates, who did OOTP, and the screenwriter is Steve Kloves who did the first four movies.

JKR supposedly joined the crew for writing the script during the first few days of production but she "understands that the film is a separate entity from the book" so it looks like I'll have another endless list of complaints.

Filming started sept 2007.

One scene I'm willing to bet they'll delete:
Katie Bell and the necklace. They just delete that kinda stuff, for no reason.
Another:
The entire Hepeziah Smith plot.

They've already deleted the Dursleys, even though other than the first one this is probably the most important role they play in the series...

Have they? What source said that? Did I miss something, because this Dursley scene actually has substance other than the one in GoF being mostly for comic relief.

I haven't heard anything about the Dursleys being cut, but I have heard they took out the Gaunts. And they have added a scene where there are death eaters attacking the Burrow. It's supposed to show that it's not safe anymore, but I think it's annoying that they can take out the scenes from the book to put in ones that never happened.

yeah me too. Nor does it even make sense plotwise because the weasley house was under the fidelius charm.

Are you sure? If it was under the Fidelius Charm, the Death Eaters couldn't have stormed the wedding in DH.

Maybe it wasn't under the Fidelius charm, I can't remember, but it was certainly under Ministry protection which the death eaters couldn't have breached until after Bill and Fleur's wedding, when the Ministry fell.
