Instead of having multiple, repetitious threads about a movie sequel, use this thread to post any news or speculation.
So, has anyone heard any news?

(Wow, I haven't posted here in a while)
The issue that I find most discussionworthy regarding the sequel is how the plot is going to be, um, plotted. Let's assume that it will combine books 4, 5, and 6. How can the plots of those three be combined in a reasonably non-jumbled manner? It would probably better if they just did books 4 and 5, as those are longer than the first three, though not by much. What is the best way to combine those two--just put the events in order?

Rather extreme ideas, I know, but they would love to do a trilogy. Note: This is not what I would like to happen; it is what I think may happen. Movie the Second: Cut out TMM and TAA, and have the Quagmires, Phil (if necessary) and Carmelita be fellow 667ers. At some point, the Quagmires vanish, and then they do the whole elevator thing and it ends just like TEE. The Daily Punctilio's significance is heavily played up here. Shortish TVV sequence - kind of like an interlude really - but enough to cement Hector and the Quagmires as characters. However, Olaf doesn't have a motorcycle, Violet and Klaus almost die, and most people, Olaf and The Daily Punctilio included, think that they did die due to some convenient plot device. Olaf snatches Sunny and drives away, and the Baudelaires are forced to follow him through the Hinterlands, not being spotted due to some other plot device. Cut straight to TSS. Olaf has gone to the Mortmain Mountains, which are conveniently only PLOT miles away, in order to deal with the Valley of Four Drafts headquarters, since he now believes that the fortune is his now that he has Sunny. Violet and Klaus are forced to climb the mountain from the bottom. The rest of TSS happens as before, only Violet and Klaus fill in a lot of plot holes by finding information in the ruins of the Valley of Four Drafts headquarters, including page thirteen of the Snicket File. The film ends with Violet, Klaus and Sunny drifting down a tributary of the Stricken Stream on the toboggan. Movie the Third: TGG, Book the Twelfth, Book the Thirteenth.

I think the next movies should be 4 5 6 7 and then 8 9 10 then 11 12 13 that way each one would end in a cliff-hanger (staring out at the desert and being washed down stricken stream as quigly goes the other way) so audiences will want to come back for more. They could also do a Lord of the Rings treatment, and film them all at once so the age of the actors isn't a problem

In theory, that would be the way to go. Film them all at once so the actors age the least possible. Face it, the 11 books so far take place in less than a year. (Klaus and Violet have both had birthdays, but Sunny hasn't yet.) I don't think it has the "legs" to carry it that far. They are going to play it by ear and not plan too much all at once.
As far as the books go, I think they should condense TMM. Definitely keep TAA and TEE. We must be introduced to the Quagmires and Esme.

movie 2: 5, 6 (Just cut out book 4, there's nothing important in there) That's where we meet Phil, the optimist, who returns in book 11. Of course, even in book 11 he isn't important. Unless LS has plans for him in book 12 or 13.

I have a pretty good hunch that if there is to be a second movie at all (which i hope there is!) it will start shooting this summer. Before the movie came out, LS only really had a cult following - it wasn't a phenomenon. I didn't expect it to do as well as Harry Potter becasue LS had a relatively small following compared to that. I think it did pretty well considering it was in opened in an oversaturated market. I found this pretty interesting Q: What are young adults reading right now, or what are some of the things people that age are coming in for? A: Definitely the Lemony Snicket series, because of the movie. Harry Potter too, because of the hype of the movie coming out in July. The new books that are coming out -- the American Library Association just posted its best books for young adults. Some of those include different authors such as Sharon Creech and Christopher Paul Curtis, and anything that is books on tape or books on CD by those authors, or the Lemony Snickets or Harry Potter series too. And R.L. Stine -- those will always be forever popular, too. www.metrowestdailynews.com/artsCulture/view.bg?articleid=89134

You do too need The Miserable Mill. Reason1: Phil. Reason2: Dr. Georgina Orwell. We need the investigation and the disguises in that book to take the series further into the mysteries it contains. Reason3: Gum.

yes, i heard a rumor that Emily Browning ( Violet ) either didn't want to continue acting in major movies or didn't want to do a second movie.

You know what I think would be better than a sequel?
If they kept on remaking the first one until they got it right.
