I strongly suspect the books in question are ATWQ, or possibly one of his recent adult novels. Widespread interest in ASoUE died out years ago (in the sense of how much money another movie would make), and when a popular book first comes out, especially a juvenile/YA one, there is always a scramble for the movie rights. Depending on how much sustained interest there will be for ATWQ as the series progresses, a movie might actually be made or a company could hold onto their well-earned rights until they become dusty and forgotten.

Why We Broke Up is in filming currently if I'm not mistaken.
Maybe I'm wrong but I seem to remember an interview in which he says something to that effect.

Wikipedia says the film is set for release early next year, so who knows

Well that probably means it's in (or near) the editing stage at the moment. So filming would be almost, if not, finished already.

There's definitely a Why We Broke Up movie, but I wouldn't be surprised by an ATWQ movie - at four parts, the series will be much more manageable, and probably it'd be possible to conflate everything into three, two, or maybe even one movie. I'm actually quite excited by the idea of an ATWQ movie; everyone at the time, I think rightly, was worried by the ASoUE movie, probably as it was hard to see how it could be done "right," but I think ATWQ has far more potential.

www.deadline.com/2012/05/hailee-steinfeld-to-star-in-fox-2000-comedy-why-we-broke-up/Hmm... That didn't answer any questions. Really being a comedy it could be filmed any time in 2014 and still be come out within the calendar year, so it's hard to say if it's filming or not. But I agree that LS was talking about ATWQ. After all LS didn't write Why We Broke Up (Wink Wink). Somehow I think ATWQ will probably be made into one movie. Honestly not much seemed to happen in the first book. Provided the same amount of things happen in each book this could easily be translated into one movie. If one book comes out each year (The trend so far), than we'll see the conclusion of the series in 2015. Who knows, perhaps we'll have a movie released then. However I do think we might see something for ASOUE in the future. After all we are approaching the ten year anniversary of the movie. The blu-ray release was withheld here in the US as well, that tends to suggest they have an event to coincide it's release with. Also with the success of the Hunger Games we're seeing a rise in high concept young adult movies again, so they might be willing to try again.

I just really hope that they don't mess up either Why We Broke Up or ATWQ as bad as they messed aSoUE. I'm still not over how horrible that movie was.

I like to think there's less about ATWQ that they'd feel inclined to arbitrarily change - then again, by some accounts, Handler's own script for the ASoUE movie took some fairly radical original steps. But it's different when the original author is responsible.

At this point, any "sequel" we're likely to get will be either some kind of reboot, maybe direct-to-DVD, or a "spiritual sequel" in the form of ATWQ, which has far less material to adapt, and I suspect would be a lot easier to film as well. Fingers crossed.

I think that if Snicket's books got more publicy (AKA if more people read them and actively showed support), I think that more movie directors would want to produce movies based on his books.

The books were very popular - but only quietly so. There were a great many readers but only a relatively small number of obsessives who went out of their way to find places like this forum to discuss their interest.

Yeah, all of my friends have read at least one ASoUE installment-- ten years ago when they were mass-printed by Scholastic and basically swarming every school book fair. However, most of them didn't get it or weren't interested, and unfortunately I've seen the books make it into a lot of those lists like "Remember these super weird books that everyone read when we were younger?" It's kind of like your favorite band making it into a list of One Hit Wonders even though they never stopped putting out music.

I remember seeing remarks on Twitter and Tumblr to the effect of "Hmm, I wonder what happened to Lemony Snicket?" It's like, guys, you're using the #LemonySnicket tag... maybe you should see what other people are using it for?
Honestly, social media is the biggest reason for the fall of the Snicket fandom. Nobody actually interacts with other fans any more.

I personally think that Dante is right. Social media has crumbled Snicket fandom. It really is sad how LS books are hardly read anymore. When the ASoUE books first came out, I didn't know anything about them. However, when I started reading them, I became hooked on the series. Others that read them usually gave up the series after the first four books. I feel that the mystery and moral impact is only understood when you've read all of them. Only then do you really appreciate the first few books in the series.
In my opinion, the best way to revive the series again would be to make a live action TV series based on ASoUE. I'm not saying that there should be 13 seasons to drag out every story. I would like to see a ASoUE show last about 4 seasons. That's all. If "they" (Hollywood) would manage to show at least 3 books in one season, then that would be great. And since they made a 2 hour movie based on the first 3 books, they could easily make it happen.
I'm looking forward to the next installment in the book series though. Hopefully, more Hollywood directors/producers will revive the series again for a new generation.
