$300? We actually got pledges for over $500. (Still not enough, I'm afraid.)
After seeing the initial bidding, I don't want to even guess how high the final bid will be.

Ugh. I just looked and it is over $3,000. I think we shall have to admit defeat, but it was a good idea and at least we tried.

The auction doesn't close for another 9 days. It'll probably reach insane figures by that time.
Wouldn't it be nice if some mysterious and wealthy benefactor took pity on us, won the auction, and put forward our utterance? Yes, we can but try, and we can but dream...

Oh well, yeah, at least we tried. Maybe if someone on here were extremely rich and they would bid for themselves, and then their utterance wound up in the book and we would know them.

I was thinking the same thing. Or what if the person who won the auction happened to have the same name as one of us, or mysteriously decided to submit one of our names?

If you have that kind of money to spend on something so frivolous, why not be selfish?

But thank you Gigi for your organizational efforts and taking this on. It is quite appreciated.

If you have that kind of money to spend on something so frivolous, why not be selfish? I suppose. There's no way I would spend that much on this. A couple hundred dollars, sure. Almost four thousand? Heck no. I've got better things to do with that kind of money. But thank you Gigi for your organizational efforts and taking this on. It is quite appreciated. Yes, I agree wholeheartedly.

Is it really selfish, if all the money is going to an organization? Perhaps some of the bidders are not bidding so much to get their name in the book, as to have a fun way to give money to a cause they support.
Gigi, thanks for taking the time to organize this. It's really appreciated.

Gigi, I'd like to add my thanks for all your hard work. It's been fun, dreaming about seeing our phrase in a Snicket book!
EDIT: The high bidder is obviously a Villainous Financial Dealer who stole the fortune of three intelligent, charming, resourceful orphans with pleasant facial features so that he/she could win the auction. I suspect foul play. ;D
