Some of you may have heard me suggesting the story of 667ers as superheroes, and here it is. So far, it is only me, but Part II shall introduce the other three main characters.
Volunteers Fighting Crime
Foreword:
In our modern world, with all the radiation and pollution that is occurring, it is not surprising that there have been more mutations than ever before. But it is simply gullible for people to believe that they will mutate into something with special powers, like telepathy when exposed to radiation. This is why the following story is a work of fiction, so that I do not need to explain how the main characters obtained their special powers. The following, fictional, story begins in a large library in some unknown town, in an unknown land. That is all.
Part 1:
One of the main characters in this story is a teenager of 15 years who I shall simply call “PJ”. This youngster, for unknown reasons that shall stay unknown, possessed a peculiar ability which he did not know he had. This ability had only recently begun to show itself, and it had done so by showing our young teenager small flashes of the future. This gift is known as second sight, and several people throughout history have had (apparently) this peculiar gift. It had only happened twice, once when his mother had dropped a coffee mug and he had seen it happen a few seconds before it actually had. He had dismissed it as some kind of optical problem. The glasses that PJ currently wore where very thick indeed. He feared he might be going blind.
The second time this ability had surfaced, PJ had seen a tiny book hidden in the most obscure part of the large library PJ often frequented. He had set out to find this book, for he felt it was somehow important. The book he had seen was titled: “The Confidence Man” by Herman Melville. PJ had done a quick internet check and had discovered that this book wasn’t the most popular; in fact, most people considered it a hoax. He had heard of this book before, when one of his favorite author’s had mentioned it, and he had been eager to read it ever since. Strangely enough, this book wasn’t listed in the library, and there was no copy in any of the bookshops he knew of.
And so one of our protagonists found himself in the back of the library, where he had seen the mysterious book. If you have read a lot, you will most likely know that finding a book amongst many, for instance, in a library of bookshop, is a difficult task, and one should ask for help when one cannot find the book one desires. But the particular book that PJ desired was not listed on the library’s computer, so the librarian would not be any help at all. PJ scanned the entire wall, but found nothing. He scanned it once more and froze suddenly. His pupils grew enormously and his vision started to blur. All of a sudden, his vision cleared, and he saw before him the book he was searching. Everything was black and white, as though he was watching an old movie. He reached out, but his hand passed through it. It was not real. He was surprised to see a hand reach out to the book, and place several other books in front of it. Then his vision blurred once more, and colour returned. He had had another premonition.
Apparently, the book he was searching was hidden behind several others. PJ, recalling the title of the last book that had been placed there, began to search for “Essays of Bacon”. A moment later he spied the large, old, tome and removed it, and those behind it, which included Droll Stories and Alice in Wonderland. After clearing away several old and boring looking books, he at last laid eyes upon The Confidence Man. He grabbed it, and, to his utmost surprise, found that it was glued to the wall. He tugged and tugged, but it refused to budge. He opened the book and was once more surprised to find the book empty, with no pages within it, but instead a large red button, which he promptly pushed.
Had PJ been aware that he was activating a secret entrance, he would have been more prepared. But he was not, so when the library wall suddenly spun around, he was thrown forwards. He landed in the dust with a grunt and looked up to see three tall individuals staring down on him, in exactly the same confused way he was staring up at them. There was a moment of silence. Then, suddenly, one of the tall figures, a teenage boy with long red hair, swung his foot and kicked PJ in the head. Hard. He was unconscious a moment later.
