The 667er.
TRAGEDY STRIKES 667.[/u]
Yesterday, at around 9:00 pm GMT, our most avid aSoUE researchers came to the NN. Com thread, only to be stupefied by the fact that somehow 103 pages of the thread had vanished. Shock all around; 'wtf?'s emanated from many posts, whilst others went off to find out what, exactly, had vanished. Newer members worriedly asked if this had ever happened before.
It seems that the root of the problem was Page 37 , as one member told us: "The problem is on page 37. Antenora's latest post is there and there is a couple of months gap between some of the posts."
"Strange things have happened, but this glitch is new to me." Confessed our baffled moderator, who has been unable to fix the problem so far. It seems that there is nothing to be done; thanks to proboards we have lost 103 pages of research vital to finding out more about Book the Twelfth; "So much of it all gone..." murmured a depressed member. With over a month's research just gone down that drain, how long can we stand for this? "This isn't the first time proboards has gone crazy on us. Why, just the other day I received an empty PM from 1960!" Said an angry member, who wishes to remain anonymous. The confusion is stupendous too, some members couldn't find the thread; they were looking for something with big numbers. Also, as an eminent member told us: "The header for the Mystery 3 page still says "Mystery Two", and the one for Mystery 2 says "Mystery One" ". Yes, proboards is glitching. But the question is, can we put up with it?

'TNN BALL' KICKS OFF
PLANS for a new 667 Dark Avenue party, in celebration of the new Lemony Snicket book arose this week, as it challenges the success of last years 'Grim Grotto Ball'.
This year's festival-currently titled 'The Nameless Novel Ball' after the success of Snicket's Internet search for the new book-is being run by returned member Scotty, who originally posted the idea. What is one of the 667-famed book balls? Well, a short and simple explanation by member Amanda can be found in the thread.
"It's like a big, giant, internet party with awards. It's rather fun. Like well, like a ball. Internet dancing and things" she said on Monday after confusion from other members. Ideas for the ball have since followed, and so far a theme of hotels and bellhops is suspected, along with a masquerade match-making session-suggested by moderator Gigi-in which members are set together to attend the ball, but are unknowing of who their date is. It has also been scheduled for the grand final of current 667 contest, 'The Alphabet Awards' to take place on the night of the ball, which is hosted by your very own Dupin.
The ball is currently planned to take place on Saturday, the 15th of October, which is just three days before book the twelfth of the series that united us is released. The ball may continue for several days if successful, and so any members who can't make it on the Saturday can probably still arrive and party in the days that follow after it.

'ANGRY NOTION' OF THE WEEK
SEARCHING through the list of members to find candidates for the awards, I've really started to have a strong opinion about all the members who have no posts. There have been discussions for a while about deleting all of the accounts, but it would be a long and boring process. However, I think it's needed-I think we need to get rid of all these "members", that however well they're boosting the great member count of 667 Dark Avenue, they should be deleted?
It clutters up the member section a lot, especially when I was trying to look through it for members who did post, and did do something. We have so many members here that features like the 'Top Posters' section don't work, but it could do if we 'release' the members who aren't posting at all. I think that everything will cope find and so on if we leave it, but it's just something that annoys me a little.
And I'm not trying to direct any offence at anyone who said it would be too hard/long/boring a job for them to want to do. I know that it wouldn't really interest me.
'THREAD OF THE WEEK'
This is a hilarious piece of art that I think definitely deserves to be recognized. Well done J.

The Poe Predicament
by Sixteen.
All the current talk about the NamelessNovel.com seems to be focusing on that (in?)famous banker: Mr. Poe.
On Sunday last, we got a quote from Brett Helquist's book Roger the Jolly Pirate. This led to discussion about the Female Finnish Pirates and their possible appearance in Book The Thirteenth.
A pun by Ennui, "While the end of TCC was a literal cliffhanger, perhaps Book The Twelfth will be a litoral cliffhanger!" led to a heated debate on the spelling of "litoral".
On Monday there was an audio clip from The Bad Beginning. Some questions were raised as to who was making the noise in the background. Parents or Poe?
Tuesday was a seemingly disappointing day. A random link to Lemonysnicket.com left many members anxious to find the final piece of Mystery the Second.
Wednesday brought sighs of relief all round. The final piece of the "drilling woman" picture was released. An Uncommon Commonplace Quiz confirmed that the woman was indeed drilling a hole in the wall. After an idea brought up by RockSunner, most now believe that the woman is an impersonator. But why? Unfortunately, this is a question that won't be answered until October 18th.
Discussion that the mustached man was Poe was now peaking, as the triptych was fully uncovered.
An interesting clue came on Thursday. The Seven Precepts of Merlin. Rules followed by a secret organization (the United Ancient Order of Druids, thanks Dante ). Maybe V.F.D. follow these rules, because they do relate to the series strangely well. Maybe they're just a Snicket allusion.
However, nobody got too worried over this as the first piece of Mystery the Third was released on Friday. "The worst came after their cover was revealed" was the Coded Communication. A nice double entendre as Dante noted. We finally got a piece of the cover! What appeared to be Klaus in disguise as a bellhop was the first section. A top hat could be seen just below him, raising the Poe discussion yet again. Many people still believe that it is him, which isn't ridiculous. In theory, he could grow a moustache.
With sixteen (!) pieces in this Mystery, it will leave us guessing even further than the previous two. The consolation is that the task days are closely spaced, for this month anyway. But will we get the title? This remains to be seen. We may only get the picture as Handler wants the title to be released on the 18th (and on the Today show, at that). But maybe our final piece will be on the 18th. Anyway, we'll see on October 1st.
Saturday brought a new, and in my opinion, improved screensaver bearing the words, "I am an inventor, I am a researcher, I am an investigator, I am a Volunteer." A nice amusement as we wait for Piece the Second.
And yet the Poe discussion still rages on. When will we come to an agreement? Or will we just have to, in the words of Fernald, the hook-handed helper "Agree to disagree"?

CHAOS AND DARKNESS
Ennui criticises (in the fine Lemonian tradition) all the stories he deigns to glance at.
I imagined, hitherto, that I was a fairly thorough reader of 667 Dark Avenue's "creative writing", to be found in Fearsome Fiction and Chaotic Creativity. Yet now I am being employed-you might say-to actually examine and review the work therein, I realise that I have barely scratched the surface. And a bewildering place it is. I must not falter; I must read to the end; and I must evaluate.
It is, I believe, fair to say that FF and CC are currently in more of a dip than a peak. FF feels the lack of the writers of yestermonth, Dupin and RockSunner; it has come to pass into the hands of people perhaps more interested in reading their own reviews than another's stories (a category into which, I must admit, I usually perfectly slide); and to be frank, there is far too much of jcgsebald within it. More on that anon.
However, some jewels are still to be found on investigation, even if somewhat obscured by the dross surrounding them. One of these is Bella's Run, following the lives of the Baudelaires 13 years after the traumatic events we know so well; a premise I am not usually fond of, as it all too often means very little villainy and an excess of blasted shipping. Bella, however, has got it quite right. The story lacks antagonists, and so far it does not miss them. Instead it is a masterpiece of nostalgia, of guilt, and of mockery at the pirouetting of society.
