This coded document was found, sent, burned, buried, or otherwise transmitted in anticipation of the upcoming novel, “Who Could That Be at This Hour?,” by Lemony Snicket. The Volunteer Training manual suggests that the first (in this case, spoken) word of a Sebald code always occurs immediately after a ringing bell. Subsequent elements of the code occur every 11th spoken word thereafter. Screenplay for "Arsonists in the Pub" by Dr. Gustav Sebald, page 11. INT. SHABBY SAM’S BAR — DAY
The bartender rings the bell, signalling the last call. DRUNK (to Bartender) Dry up, will ya? BARTENDER Six oclock—Last call! Come on, fellers, the bar is closing! DRUNK It really does move a man to tears when bars close this early. On the other end of the bar two suspicious men find themselves in a hushed conversation. HARRY JONSEN Anyway, I set the fire and I got out of there. The others have tried to stifle it out, of course, but everything burnt to a crisp. “BIG ED” ROBIE (raises glass) Cheers to success! The two gangsters drink a toast to their treacherous deeds. END SCENE. Any information contained in the document should be treated with the utmost caution, and the omission of any decoding is strongly advised. ____________________________________________ [glow=red,2,300]Editor's Note: I welcome all volunteers to post other coded excerpts of any known or unknown Sebald screenplays they would like to write down for us.[/glow]

Nobody? Hmm.. I guess either no one decoded it or no one googled the hidden message.

I decoded it, but I hadn't thought to Google the message; I thought it might be illuminated later. That's quite clever, though.

Interesting way to embed an allusion. Do the tinkering of glasses classify as another ring?

Yeah I didn't understand what the message meant either but now it makes sense.

That's clever. Is there more to follow?

Interesting way to embed an allusion. Do the tinkering of glasses classify as another ring? Yes, meaning it's the end of this particular message. That's clever. Is there more to follow? Thanks. I thought of this as just a one time deal (no continuation), but maybe that might change as we get a little more information on WCTBATH. That's why I'm encouraging other writers to write and add their own Gustav Sebald fanfiction here, if they would like to. But I understand if nobody's going to, cos it ain't that easy to get a meaningful message hidden in a sensible script. But I was really pleased with this one, as I even included an allusion to the setting and time of this and/or ASoUE/ATWQ being in Australia or NZ during the early 20th century (the period of the "six o'clock swill"). We're really good at being ASoUE fans. Yes we are, aren't we ;D
