I know this thread probably isn't going to be immediately swamped with activity, but seeing an illustrator's importance in a series, and some discussion on his illustrations in ATWQ around here, I thought it'd only make sense to create a general thread for Mr. Gregory "Seth" Gallant from Canada, including his work outside of the series. Concretely what propelled me to create this thread was me wanting to post about his latest involvement in a Criterion Collection release, Charlie Chaplin's wonderful " City Lights" (one of the most bittersweet endings ever), to which he designed the cover artwork for: This isn't the first time he's worked with Criterion, as he did the same with their release of Leo McCarey's tearjerker "Make Way For Tomorrow," and he's listed his 10 favourite (Criterion-released) movies on their website (picture and link here). Other than that I can say that I've read his pseudo-autobiographical graphic novel "It's a Good Life, If You Don't Weaken," which I found wonderful. EDIT: Some further links: A brief TorontoLife interview with Seth on illustrating WCTBATH ( link) And a neat 10-min TV feature about him: link. PS: I hope there really isn't another thread about Seth, I couldn't find one, and I hope it's the right section. If not, then somebody will probably move it.

Hmm. Depending on the direction this thread takes, I may or may not move it to WWriter, but here is fine as well.
I must say, I'm enjoying Seth's work in ATWQ a lot more than I thought I would at first. The front cover for ?1 was a bit too undetailed for me, but everything else and since has been everything I've been looking for, and that his style is simply so different from Helquist's makes it a fantastic alternative. So I would call myself a fan of his work now, certainly. I appreciate the moodiness of his shades.
The interview is quite interesting, too, but too short. Seth's personal voice is hard to find, and therefore his voice on ATWQ is even harder to find. Well, I guess that means that his persona is just as suited to Snicket as his art is. So is his fashion sense, I recall.

Well, there's more art in the second book, numerically.

I really like Seth's work, especially in the Beret-ed characters (Kit and Cleo/ Ellington in disguise). I also like his sceneries. Also, Theodora's hair. Also a lot of other things (octopi, vehicles etc.)

I've seen that image before, but only now do I realise that that book is the size of his torso.
