I think each ATWQ book has more plot than each UE book. UE was generally slower paced and had a lot more narration from snicket. Yes, ATWQ punches well above its weight in terms of page count. So much more goes on than in ASoUE, and I'm not really sure how Handler wangles it. Though the pages of WAP are larger than the pages of the Snicket books. (I think WAP is pretty standard for a mainstream novel, though as I'm more used to science fiction/fantasy I found it pretty short.) True, but I still thought it seemed rather appropriate that the page count turned out that way. My own reading varies pretty wildly in length, but for a favoured author like Snicket I'd always be happy to see more pages. I heard in an interview once that all his books run up to 1000 pages when he's done with them, and then he and his editor cut down significantly until they're a reasonable length. Although it's likely he was joking. Since you mention it, I remember him saying that at one point he had a thousand-page draft of Adverbs.

I mean, it shows he could write a longer Snicket book and still keep the thirteen-chapter pattern. (Alternatively he could have twenty-six chapters. Steven Brust's books usually have seventeen chapters, but occasionally multiples thereof.)

I don't know if it would be quite the same if it were to be a multiple of thirteen, though I think if it's Snicket then we would be amused at any contortions necessary to achieve the required number in letter if not in spirit - prologues, epilogues, sub-chapters, not-a-chapters, etcetera.

I think I'd rather have more chapters (especially 26/39) than 13 extremely long chapters. I would be very amused if he started labelling chapters "5a" or "12(iii)", or had 9 prologues/epilogues.

im trying to remember when did he do that "not-a-chapter" thing, and why?

im trying to remember when did he do that "not-a-chapter" thing, and why? In The Penultimate Peril, before and after chapters 4, 5 and 6, to note that they can be read in any order as they occur simultaneously.

Incidentally, this Friday is a Friday the 13th. I'd say there's a better than average chance of the cover being released on that day, so watch out. After that, the most likely date for a cover release will become "today" for every day until it occurs.
(For reference, ?1 and ?2's covers were released at the end of February; ?3's was delayed as they were promoting File Under.)

And there's another Friday the 13th later in the year, but the former was too early, and the latter will be too late. If they're timing their reveal for a particular date, this Friday is really the only eligible one that I can see, and I thought it might be interesting for us to have a potential date in mind rather than an empty "any time now."

It'd be nice if they stepped things up a notch for the series finale. To be fair they did keep up a steady flow of promo images in the month or so running up to ?3, revealing a few bits of new art along the way. I'm pretty sure their social media accounts are the new Snicketmails.

I think it would be cool to have Snicketmails again, but I don't think there will be any again. We didn't have any for the last two books, so why should we suddenly get them again?

Well, nothing happened yesterday, so please upgrade your expectations of when ?4's cover will be released to "any day now." Probably not a weekend, I suppose, but I wouldn't care to narrow it down any further.

Do you think the story will involve lemony running with olivias' crystal ball and been tripped up by harvey?
