my question was really for shows that had only the first season ordered, then another season ordered separately before anything had aired. but i didn't know shows ever started with multiple seasons ordered either.

Maybe off topic but slightly related question : What is the largest order for any tv show in terms of numbers?

Sadly, I don't think there's a cut and dry answer to that now. It was about 22 for years, but with series providers either going by the seasonal calendar with winter finales that don't actually end the storyline because of the spring premeers, and Netflix no longer being constant in its episode requests/counts... I will say, with series on PBS or mini series, which I think is the best way to judge this adaptation, the first season usually has the least amount of episodes, with the number either staying the same or growing slightly/majorly in following seasons. So, we could see season two go up from 8 to 10, for instance, but as far as I've found for a first season, there's no point in comparing or reading into episode numbers. It's the setup season, so while we could say ASOUE will be more structured and have less filler than a season with 22/24 episodes, I think that's all the information we can presume.

I just read a relatively reputable round-up article on news on the series right here, relatively reputable in the sense that they mention a lot of the more obscure casting announcements but leave out Bernadette Peters. There is one name mentioned in there that I don't recognise, though: Luke Camilleri (they actually spell it wrong, but no matter). Doing some digging around, I see he's confirmed on his own Facebook page that he's in and specifically that he's playing Gustav. I thought I'd better bring this to people's attention, as it seems to have been mentioned but then forgotten about quite a bit earlier in this thread without having been added to the front page.

And the more I think about it the more I want Alfre Woodard to be Aunt Josephine.

In this interview, Handler compares the Netflix series to a lizard. I don't know if that bodes well or poorly. The interview says that the Netflix adaptation will have a "13 episode series" but I don't particularly trust it on that; on an unrelated note, it also describes ATWQ as a "quintet" - either it's odd that they've included FU13, or terrible that they can't count to four. Unfortunately, Handler completely evades the question about possible ATWQ adaptations.

In case anyone hasnt seen, the cast has been posting pictures from the wrap party. If you want to see them, try malina weissman and louis hynes' instagrams. Also, this is unrelated but as far as the role of Cobie Smulders might be in the series, the role that would seem to make the most sense to me would be Beatrice. (Which I can actually see pretty well)

I ended up searching one of the hash tags and found dozens of pictures from that party. Found a lot of different crew members I didn't know of before. They all seem pretty confident in a second season.
Cobie Smulders as Beatrice would be pretty awesome.

Yeah I think they know something about a second season that hasn't been released. And Netflix has more money than God so I'm pretty sure we're getting it.

You've kept the first post commendably orderly, and I appreciate that. It has certainly helped me a few times (i.e. every single time I was writing Netflix News since you made the thread).

I applaud this thread and the decision to confine it to the production.
