I will maybe do this if I have time for watching. I can only watch while it's still September, because my only legal way to watch it is my amazon student account and I won't be able to use that when I'm not officially a student anymore.

Mister M's Random Trivia : - Some of the sound effects for the Nestene consciousness are the same as those used for the 456 in Torchwood : Children of Earth
Full-er comments on Rose will come in a few days!

Mister M's Review : Rose
The first three minutes of this episode make a bold statement. We start with a shot of the earth, from space. This new, modern version of Doctor Who is different from the old series in several ways, but one way more than others - it's almost completely earth bound, with the only exception being a couple of space stations. Compare this first series to the first of the classic series - Only 1 episode is set on the then present day earth.
This new, more earth-focused approach works well in making the show more accessible to new viewers, as does the character of Rose. She's set up as an ordinary 19 year old from London, and I guess she is (not being 19 year old, from London, or a girl, I can't say that this depiction is 100% accurate, but it seems to be) The focus on the companion is also a new thing, however. Sure, in the classic series the companions played a large role, but I don't think that they were ever the focal point that rose is, especially in this series.
As these opening few minutes continue, there are more shocks to come. We see the companions parents! And - hold on tight - she has a boyfriend! Russell T Davies has occasionally been criticised for his 'soapy' take on doctor who, but i think for the most part it worked. Jackie and Mickey are great fun, and only help to ground the show in the real world.
But, of course, it's not real. There is something very strange going on in the shops of London. The Autons are back! Bringing back a monster from the classic series in the first episode could be a risky move, as it could potentially bog down the premiere in to much continuity, and we all know what happened last time that happened *cough* the tv movie *cough*. However, it's done well here. The Autons are never named on screen, and I'm pretty sure that the doctor never even mentions that he has met them before. If you didn't know that these were past villains of the Doctor's then you weren't missing out on anything, whilst at the same time it was a nice treat for long term fans.
Ah, yes. There is, of course, The Doctor. Christopher Eccleston is the perfect actor for this slightly different, more modern doctor. I don't have much to say about him from this first episode, but that's probably because he is not the true the focus of the episode. This episode is about Rose, trying to unpick the mystery of The Doctor. The Doctor isn't actually even on screen that much - he is absent for at least 1/3 of the episode, whereas rose is absent for.. well, none of it. The way the episode builds up the character of the doctor so much is brilliant though, his presence is felt in almost every scene, and the scene with Rose and Clive looking through old images of the Doctor is my favourite of the episode.
Overall, I really enjoy this episode, my only problem being that the Nestene is defeated pretty easily. If only the doctor had anti-dalek as well as anti-plastic. But, actually, the easy way in which the story is resolved work's in the storys favour. The plot would be too bogged down if a more substantial solution had to be added in to the story. Because this isn't really a story about defeating the monsters, it's the story of Rose finding the doctor. Come with me? yes please.
Shout Outs must go to the brilliant TARDIS design, and the return of the sonic screwdriver.
I'd rate this episode a solid 8/10
Trivia : - Rusell T Davies has written for doctor who before; He wrote a New Adventures novel called Damaged Goods, featuring the 7th Doctor. It was recently adapted into an audio play by Big Finish - The Autons previously appeared in the 3rd Doctor stories Spearhead from Space and Terror of the Autons - The Sonic Screwdriver returns for the first time since the Fifth Doctor story The Visitation. It initially debuted in the Second Doctor story Fury from the Deep - This is the first episode of Doctor Who to feature a companions name in the title - In the script, during the cat flap scene, the Doctor was supposed to put his head through the cat flap. However, on the day of filming, it was found that the cat flap was too small for this to happen.

brilliant, cheers. i rewatched rose, i do really like it, only slipping up in the burping garbage bins and plastic micky. hard to believe that these are the same autons that appear in a couple more doctors time.
ecclestone as the ninth doctor is great, but i feel he would have been much better served by a show that wasn't quite as comical as the one we got, especially in these first few episodes. i mean he can do funny "lots of planets have a north" but hopefully you'll all appreciate how great he is in the darker more dramatic moments as we see more of those.

Darn, i forgot to mention the bin. When will Big Finish do a boxset about the secret history of the burping bin?

i also saw the end of the world, but i'm really not great at review writing like the above mr m post, nice work there by the way.
again some pretty good bits overall, prbably tried too hard with their star wars cantina moment of all the aliens, (i haven't seen star wars but you know what i mean)
amusing 'ipod' moment but spears has dated, tainted love was a good call however.

INSERT CLEVER NAME FOR A QUIZ HERE
So, I have (after consulting with BSam) decided to run a quiz along with this. The Quiz will appear every two weeks, and will feature questions relating to the episodes that you will have / are about to watch.
I will post the Questions here, and you can then send your replies to me by PM. However, if you want to enter the quiz, then you have to post your comments on one of the episodes we are covering here. If you send me answers without posting here, then they won;t be counted.
There will be 10 questions on each episode, some will be very easy, some will be very hard. Now, obviously you could all cheat and look the answers up on the internet, or scour the episode to find the exact moment you need, but that wouldn't really be as fun. Try and test your memory! Or guess!
However, there is a further twist - for every question you get wrong, all of your opponents will gain an extra point. So answers wisely. Leaving a question blank counts as a wrong answer.
I will Post the first set of questions later today, and you will then have just under a week to send in your entries.

Doctor Who was rebooted aiming at a 12 year old demographic. that's why it had burping bins, killer Christmas trees and a lead actress who was a former pop star.

Sure, in the classic series the companions played a large role, but I don't think that they were ever the focal point that rose is, especially in this series. Were they not at the very beginning? I'd always understood that the first series was about a couple of teachers who meet a mysterious doctor, and the adventures that follow on this, rather than about the doctor himself. Am I right in thinking that the Sonic Screwdriver was written out because it made everything too easy? How did the new series get round that?
