So how did we all go? Watched the first three episodes?
For me it was kinda weird going back, I've rewatched episodes from early before but usually the higher quality ones, girl in the fireplace etc. the average ones i'd not really bothered with, and now i remember why. serviceable episodes but not amazing. especially the end of the world one. fun to watch, rose seeing all these aliens for the first time, but really kinda cheesy on a rewatch.
If people want to start watching the next two episodes, it's a two parter, and watch them by let's say the 6th of november.
That's Aliens of London and World War Three

Mister M I was going to do your quiz but I forgot to watch the episodes so I abstained
Anyway to belatedly not-really-contribute, from what I remember from my first watch, neither of the first two episodes really had any impact on me because they weren't my first episodes (of Dr. Who, NuWho, or Eccleston, bc I watched really out of order at first) but they were like. Enjoyable enough from what I remember? I don't really have anything to say that hasn't already been said. I never watched the Dickens one because I got bored and paused it two minutes in and never came back.

yeah the dickens one in itself didn't really do much for me, but it has the actor who later plays gwen in torchwood, and it's nuwho's first historical, a tradition that dates back to the very first serial which is implied to be set in caveman era earth.
basically these first three episodes have been establishing what doctor who is again, and have been the three main storytypes, present day alien stuff, future space stuff, historical stuff.

None of the first three really stood out as omgwow amazing. My first episode was 1x6 Dalek, which is rich in show mythology and blew me away, and is probably the only season 1 episode that could have compelled me to give the rest of the show a chance. I had previously only known Doctor Who as a low-budget old British show and never seen a full episode (my only personal experience with it in fact was one time in 2003 when I was up late and found it playing on the local PBS station, and have since discovered that the one that was on was part 4 of Castrovalva, NOT a very newbie friendly episode).

Dalek is an adaptation of a quite good audio story. But it was very adapted. Coincidentally Human Nature and Family of Blood are adaptationa of a book (which I haven't read yet) involving a different doctor. This throws up questions of canon, did he go through the same process twice? Because licenses were sold by the bbc, nothing can really be said not to be part of the universe, unlike what they're trying to do with star wars. Similar questions arise depending on if you count both versions of Shada, if you count the Shalka doctor, and what is going on with Season 6B

Watching Aliens of London now and live-blogging... -The part where Rose finds out she's been gone 12 months, and the loss of control she must feel as well as all the unnecessary pain she caused her mother is legit making me panic a little. The anxiety of it all...face off a monster of the week and it's all fun and games but this is hitting too close to home. -The Doctor doesn't want to investigate in his TARDIS, says that this sort of thing brings out all sorts of people snooping around. I do believe he's hiding from UNIT. Speaking of which, lots of red-beret soldiers that look a lot like UNIT, even if they won't make an official appearance until season 4. -LOL at the American news; they just released a statement from the "Secretary General" which I'm pretty sure is a fake position RTD made up on the spot because it sounds official. -Why hallo thar not-Tosh. We just saw your friend not-Gwen last episode. -Harriet Jones! She's so earnest and naive and I love her. -Poor Mickey. -LOL at the Doctor shushing his sonic screwdriver. -...and the fart jokes. I think this episode is the reason I didn't like RTD when he was showrunner, he felt so juvenile. He has since grown on me but the fart jokes are as terrible as ever. -Why you gotta be so mean to poor little Mickey, Doctor? -So they do mention UNIT! I didn't realize that. And they're still United Nations Intelligence Taskforce (in season 4 they're called UNified Intelligence Taskforce and made a lot of people made at the name change). -Oh Harriet, poor little bb. No one cares that you're the MP of Flydale North. -Why do all the lights go out when Slitheen are taking off their skinsuits? -First cliffhanger!
