Ewan Mcgregor said that he doesn't like reading HP to is kids before bed, and that ASOUE is a lot better. I saw the forum about that on mugglenet, and 10reviews down, the Harry Potter fans are saying "eqan sux img if he duznt liek hare oter is desarves to dy i meen thoze buks are nothin but a bad rip offff of hary potar cuz only ideots dont liek hary pter and omg i fel so bad 4 his childrn not bein abel to reed hapry potr his childen shud run away" (Translation: Ewan sucks. If he doesn't like Harry Potter he deserves to die. I mean those books [ASOUE] are nothing but a bad rip off of Harry Potter. only idiots don't like Harry Potter. I feel so bad for his children, not being able to read Harry Potter. They should run away)
Sadly, I'm not really exaggerating.
Nowhere in the article did it say he didn't like HP, he said he didn't like reading it out loud, and he is disappointed that he wasn't cast as a narrator in the movie (so am I).
Other people are saying that ASOUE doesn't have much of a mystery, and HP does so you'd want to read it more.
Yeah, right. It's easy for me to put down an HP book. I've read it, I know what's going to happen. ASOUE, on the other hand, I can read the whole series in the day. Maybe it's because they are smaller. Some people say "they're simplistic and childish" *cough*. But it's more of a hands-on mystery than HP.

Ewan would've made a great Snicket. He would be snicketlicious. Anyway, I'm with him on the what to read aloud to your kids thing. And how is ASOUE in any way a rip off of Harry Potter? The Baudelaires don't do magic, or ride an invisible train of keep talking owls. What, because they're orphans? That's a theme in a lot of literature, I had to write a thesis on it for heaven's sake.
I don't get the connection.

They're saying ASOUE is a cheap reap off of HP. Wonder if they've seen The New York Times Best Seller List in Childrens Fiction. TSS is #1 and HP doesn't come til about #5. Also Loamhedge and Holes and TBB are on there too. Next time I go to the book store I'll tell you where HP is excaltly.

(so let's get totally off the purpose of my thread, which was to discuss the idiot users at mugglenet) I don't see the big hype about Orlando. Ewan would have made an excellent Lemony and an excellent Lupin. He's not how I imagine Lupin, but, he still would have been good. Even further off topic: David Thewlis is partially how I imagined Lupin, but they also made him look like some guy from The Onion, and the result of my math and technology teacher reproducing. Somehow. Considering they are both men...  |
