What would make it pretty gothic.. or dark would be if Chabo the Wolf baby had eaten Madame Lulu..

Again, gothic and goth are two different things. I would call these books melodramatic or tongue-in-cheek gothic. Or Pop-Gothic. Lovin' the pop-gothic. Oh my goth.

I think "pop-gothic" is a pretty good term for them, as is "mock-gothic". "Melodramatic" is also well among the best adjectives for describing these books.

No because if it were it would have a lot of refrences on how it sucks to be a conformatist (lil south park joke). Seriously, I don't think it is. The depressing aspects of the books would be the only thing that would make it gothic other than that no. I wouldn't consider it gothic.

I defeneatly wouldnt say gothic....
They remind me of books that are hundreds of years old but have been well looked after, the ripped pages on the 'inner-spine' make it also look old-fashioned, and the smell, have you ever noticed the distinctive smell of an aSoUE book? I find it very overwhelming, if i was suddenly blind that would be the way i would pick an asoue book ... but i wouldnt say they are gothic not even slightly.....There is no gothic in the book, they are defeneatly more old fashioned

The books certainly have an old-fashioned look to them, a sort of mixture of the Victorian era, the 1920's, and several other time periods. Whatever their style is, it's not modern, and it has some element of the "gothic".
Melodramatic means they're full of exaggerated drama and farfetched events.

I believe Brett Helquist has described the style of his pictures as "mock gothic". "Mock gothic" seems like an accurate way to describe it.
