Hi! I'm new to the board and I've joined in the hopes of getting some help. I'm the webmistress of an online newspaper for children based around the Harry Potter series. Children sign up with the website to become columnists for this fictional newspaper, where they are encouraged to develop their english and creative writing skills while writing about their favorite people and places in the wizarding world. Since its creation in 2000, we have mentored and tutored nearly 500 children using this unique educational tool.
After a short hiatus, we're completely restructuring and redesigning the website. But most importantly, we're developing another section of the site specifically for the Series of Unfortunate Events. I'm a huge fan of the books, but I haven't really been involved in the fan world for the series at all. So I was hoping I could talk to some fans a bit in order to learn a little about what you'd like to see on the website. It'll essentially be a fictional newspaper for the world of the Baudelaires, the Quagmires, the VFD, all that good stuff. But I need some help to get it started. I want it to be fantastic, phenomenal, and absolutely perfect for other fans of the books.
That's why I need your help. The reason I've put this thread in the Perilous Places section is because right now I need some help coming up with good names for the various departments of the newspaper. For example, in the Harry Potter section, we used Hogwarts classes for the newspaper sections (i.e. kids write columns about Potions, Magical Creatures, and so on.) I'm thinking it might be good to have sections based on locations, but I need some help coming up with a good comprehensive list of everyone's favorite places in the books. I'm reading through the books again, but any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated!
Finally, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to put a URL up to my site, but um, I'll look into that. Email me if you'd like it, I guess. We're known as The Daily Prophet, and it's under the umbrella of Prophet Incorporated, an internationally recognized 501(c)3 non-profit organization. So yeah, thanks very much! And I hope to hear from you all soon.
