Of course he hids allusions. That's part of his literary style.

Guys, I don't know if you've noticed but Snicket/Handler makes references for almost ALL of his characters. For ex. Isadora and Duncan Quagmire, put their names together and you get Isadora Duncan, a famous dancer who died of strangular problems (she was choked to death). Same thing goes for the Baudelaires, they're named after Charles Baudelaire, the French poet who made "Les Fleurs Du Mal", which is also Isadora Quagmire's favorite book.

It was also a manta ray it was feeding with (maybe it always feed on every scrap every fish make). I don't know if what I will talk about is the Remora, but I think it [remora] has an agreement w/ the other fish like:

Big Fish: You can eat anything from my scales, even from my teeth, but I won't eat you.
Remora: Ok.

They had some kind of mutual relationship in pokemon; y'know, Remoraid, the Remora. As for the Bass, I forgot its look.
