A tench is a kind of fish as well, and in fact there's a bit of a fish theme at Prufrock--the fish-shaped lamps and blue curtains in the library. This could be foreshadowing for TEE, in which ocean decorating is "in" and a fish statue plays an important part.

Because, of course, a group of fish is called a "school."
Edit: Would you mind changing the title of this thread to something which gives a better indication of what it's about?

Oh, I just realized the irony of that. I never noticed that before. That is kinda funny. I've noticed the Mr. Remora/Ms. Bass connection for a while.

Because, of course, a group of fish is called a "school." Ugh, pun!! Do you really think that's why the fish theme is there, because of that definition? I just thought it was an odd little quirky hidden theme Handler decided to incorporate.

Thanks, Dante. I never noticed the "school of fish" connection.(And if you pointed it out before, I clearly forgot it at some point)

The "school" idea had occurred to me, but it's so prosaic...
I was envisaging something more along the lines of a massive, baroque, fanfiction-worthy conspiracy involving Prufock Prep's real Principal and the waiters at Cafe Salmonella, all entangled in the story of the Snicket Snickersnee...

I noticed the fish theme but never connected it with a "school".

I didn't notice that either. I didn't know that Remora meant anything at all. Cool of you to catch that!

A Remora, if I recall, is a certain type of blood-sucking fish..... Or maybe that's a Lamprey.....

A remora is a fish with a sucker on its head, that attaches itself to a shark and feeds on scraps that the shark drops when eating. I dont' think they suck blood.

This is all very interesting, and I had never made the connection between the "school" and fish theme. I looked up the meaning of a remora on dictionary.com and Antenora seems to be correct.
