I have a theory that Jerome is the principal of P.P. It would explain how he had anough money to buy the penthoude before he married Esme. Also, the ocean decorations. And he had Nero try to give the orphans to Olaf beacuse Jerome is a double agent working for the bad VFD. And Jaques was his friend until Jerome beatrayed him and tossed him into the Vile Village to be murdered by Olaf. It all works.

he isn't working for olaf and besides he would be at the school and not living in the penthouse with esme at that time

I also think that theory is far-fetched. Jerome seems to have no connection to either side of VFD, which is why Jacques referred to VFD as "a secret organization" in his letter to Jerome. However, Nero may well have been working for Olaf.

Jerome's just a well-meaning coward. Nero I don't believe is working for anyone - he's just self-centred and mean. Not that it matters, since Prufrock is now closed (it was mentioned in TAA - lack of teachers after Miss Bass robbed a bank and Mr Remora choked on whatever he was always eating and retired).

Everything in ASOUE is far-fetched...
Just a point.
I don't think he's the princible either. But I DO think that the bad side V.F.D. could easily convince Jerome to be on their side. The whole, 'I don't like to argue' thing...

Uh? Explain that again? First off, wasn't Jerome married to Esmé a while before the Baudelaires came to their penthouse? And if that's true, he couldn't be the principal of Prufreck.

I don't think we will ever know who the principal is. But if we do, i'm sure it will be an old character or someone from VFD or something like that.

jerome can't be the priciple because when klause and sunny and violet meet him, they would have recignized jerome from the school and he would have recignized them.

I believe you are under the mistaken impression that Nero was the Principal of Prufrock Prep. In actuality, he was the Vice Principal. The Baudelaires never met the Principal.
