the bauldelaires first home was their mansion where they felt safe with their parents and their favorite possesions. that place was destroyed and now may be called a perilous place because their parents may have been killed there and their comforts there are basically possibly like destroyed.

Discuss the Baudelaire mansion here, including secret passages, green wood, coasters, microscopes, and fire.

didn't they have brick during those times? If so wouldn't it have been more wise to use brick rather than wood to build a house? Is emerald wood less flamable than brick? Sorry I know nothing on the topic of flammable material

I guess emerald wood really is less flammable than brick. Or perhaps brick was really expensive for some reason, so the VFDers prefered to use green wood, which they could get from Lucky Smells.

Or they could have used the emerald lumber for idealogical reasons.

Perhaps VFD had a rule that all mansions had to be made from emerald lumber.
Note that in the meeting transcript, someone mentions headquarters being painted green. Perhaps the VFDers ran out of emerald wood, but kept painting their mansions green out of tradition.

I think the whole "green wood" thing is just... odd!

I think the whole "green wood" thing is just... odd! So do I. Why does it have to be green wood?

Well, V.F.D. apparently likes the colour green. It's also said that green wood doesn't burn as easily as normal wood, although I'm not sure where to find a source for that information.

Yes... that's fact. When you're trying to make a fire, you always get the non-green wood, the kindling, the firewood. If it's green.. it won't burn. From North Prairie Fire Department (NPFD):

Well, apparently the green-ness wasn't enough..... (Green is my fave color too) Maybe the paint was flammable.

Did anyone notice, in the movie, that Olaf's house is composed of a wood that has a green-ish tint?

You're right; I didn't notice that before, but I found a screenshot. It looks to me like faded green paint. Exterior of Olaf's house.
