Bah. Goths are just another clicque, for all they talk about the vapid superficial clicquiness of other cliques. should i assume that you aren't in a clique?

Actually, I am kind of in the academic achievement clique. But I'm in all advanced classes so the only people I see all day our other people in all advanced classes. It's kind of inevitable, but I don't think that there are a bunch of rules for being in. You don't have to have all your clothes from the same store, you don't have to have your hair perfect everyday or your hair unwashed everyday. You don't have to have a particular way of speaking, although you do have to have something interesting to say. You probably do have to be in at least one activity. I suppose it is a clique, but it doesn't feel as restricting as others.

I hang out with a lot of different groups. The thing about goth is you except people for who they are and how respectful a person is, not by what they wear or who they talk to.

And there are so many. Oh, and 500 brownie points for recognizing the quote.

i love being gothic. only a few of us in in my class are, so its fun to see peoples reaction. almost everyone in high school is goth. How contrary.. I read an article once, about goths, and it said there were two types: real goth and face goth (face being the type that are only goth because they like the clothes and the pallor, not so much the deep thoughts and.. whatever else). Um, I don't really have anything to say that hasn't already been said.. :-/

Celinra (I think) was saying that the goths she knew were interested in issues, too. The girl I know who I automatically associate with goth was a complete geek.... she loved Star Trek, Science Fiction novels, had a 95% average... she was awesome. I have no idea where she got her clothes, but she had these great Victorian looking blouses and jackets and trenchcoats and wore a top hat and had (naturally) long black hair... she was also very involved in lots of protests and human rights club type things and was very outspoken about her views. People have to have something that they stand for if they're going to be a goth, I think, and a lot of them do.

I'd like to see that essay, Celinra. I agree with you (and Pester) the "so-called" goths isn't just a problem in goth subculture but in every group. It just annoys me a bit more when a group claims to be above such petty things, and claims their group to be intelligent/open-minded. Do you seriously shop at the gap for everything? EUGH. Noooooooooo. You really are a librarian! I like some of their pieces like I will buy classic black pants, the white oxford shirt, and maybe a few sale items. But gap isn't my absolute favorite.. though I like gapbody. Right now I'm wearing gap sweatpants, gap slippers, gap panties (the valentine promotional ones with little hearts , the gap t-shirt bra and a discovery channel t-shirt. (: No, I do not shop at Gap for everything, basically just jeans, and just when they're on the discount rack or when I can't find them anywhere else for cheaper. Occasionally I'll buy a shirt or something, but again, basically only when it's discounted (I found a $40 shirt for $5, I guess because it was last year's style or something, but it was really nice). I usually shop... well, no where in particular. If I find something nice somewhere, I'll buy it. I've bought clothes at Waldenbooks, for that matter... It was an ASOUE t-shirt. Once I get home, I'll see if the essay is still on my computer. It should be, but I may have deleted it as I wanted no reminders of my economics class.

I buy boys' t-shirts second hand... you know, the ones with like Batman and Star Wars and Harry Potter on them? Yeah... those are awesome.

Hot Topic is just squeezing consumerism out of gothics, which I don't really like but , what the hell... I don't like people who call themselves "goths" , People who label themselves are posing in my opinion but I don't want to make the sweeping generalisation that all people who think they are punks/goths/sk8rs or whatevers are losers but the large majority are. my style , call it what you wish , is casual , aritst-ish baggy jeans , dark suede boots , baggy t-shirts stuff I don't think that goth , however some people do

Discovery Channel store sucks because they have no Mythbusters ANYTHING. I want a Mythbusters shirt so goddamn bad. I have one or two of the ASOUE shirts, too. I think the other one was for my friend and I never gave it to her. o___o And a friend of mine has a couple Batman shirts. Personally, I want more ASOUE t-shirts. With Olaf and co. But you know me, I'm greedy for that.

Most of my uhm "nerdy" shirts were gifts from my step-dad. I have a lot of science related/NASA t-shirts from him that his work handed out. I have a t-shirt from the Titanic Science thing at the Smithsonian Museum of I Forget. Science nerds reprazent, even though I'm more of a litnerd. Or I could go to a silkscreener's, but I want to get myself a pin-making machine and make myself some secksy ASOUE pins first.
