I agree with Hooky, based on my moral and religious beliefs as a Catholic, that gay marriage is wrong. It goes against God's law and the natural order of things. Don't you think there's a reason that a man and another man or a woman and another woman can't have children? It's because marriage is ONLY meant to be between a man and a woman. OK, I accept the fact that people have religious beliefs (I, personally, don't) and that they try their best to follow them. But this isn't a theocracy. If your sole basis for banning gay marriage is "God says so and He created Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve," and try to pepper it with "They can't procreate" which I understand is totally an important issue, because the world is severely underpopulated, then you have no substantial argument. You have no argument for denying countless people their rights. The government should not enact a religious agenda. The government should not follow your reasoning. If you took a second to follow any of your paths to its logical conclusion, you'd probably rethink them. So infertile couples shouldn't get married? So the government should follow the Bible? Sounds like a great idea. We'd be in for a wild ride. I'm sorry for being disrespectful. I honestly can usually understand dissenting arguments on a lot of subjects, but I can't fathom denying people their rights on the basis of sexual orientation.

^ I just agree with you, basically. The only reason people seem to have not to agree with gay marriage is on the basis is about procreation, which doesn't make sense at all. Homosexuality isn't a choice, infertility isn't a choice. Let's say you were born infertile. You didn't choose to be infertile, it just happened to you. Being infertile is not immoral. God does not hate infertile people. Now go back at change the word "infertile" to the word "homosexual". Other reasons seem to go down to some sort of homophobia. I'm sorry, I just can't see it any other way than that.

*BUMP*
Proposition 8 has been overturned! At least for the time being. The ruling is supposed to be appealed. Then regardless of what the next ruling is, it will end up being appealed to the Supreme Court.

Why do people even care if other people are gay?

Why do people even care if other people are gay? I guess for the same reason as music snobs care so much about what kind of music other people listen to.

Why do people even care if other people are gay? I guess for the same reason as music snobs care so much about what kind of music other people listen to. I think music snobs mostly want to share their musical tastes with other people, but they take the wrong way of handling it. I can't think of a reason as to why people care whether or not other people are gay.

Actually, I was referring more along the lines of music snobs insulting people who like bands that they don't like.

Okay. I don't understand why they would insult people for that.

I think a lot of it has to do with upbringing. I know I grew up being taught that homosexuality is wrong; in the past few years I've spent a lot of my free time online and have learned a lot of other perspectives that have changed the thinking I was brought up with but I doubt that's the case with most people; especially older adults who grew up without computers.

The only reason i wouldn't go for gay marriage is because we will eventually become extinct . other than that, i don't mind at all.

The only reason i wouldn't go for gay marriage is because we will eventually become extinct . other than that, i don't mind at all. That would only happen if EVERYONE was gay. And if no gays and lesbians wanted to be part of a surrogate scheme. The chances of us becoming extinct because of gay marriage is so small that it's really not worth mentioning. so i have no idea why you brought it up.

also marriage ain't got nothing to do with it...even if gay folks can't get married, they're still not going to be reproducing (in the conventional way).

Chiming in on the religion thing... I think homosexuality isn't what God wants for us. At the same time, I'm for allowing gay marriage. I can't say I'm a hugely enthusiastic supporter, but I think it's the right thing. Rachel's right, this (the US) isn't a theocracy, and since I'm certainly glad that my country doesn't have laws that prohibit me from practicing my faith, it's only fair that others should get to do what they see as right too. Just my two cents.

Now that's what I call a good Christian.
"Yeah, my God is against it, but don't let that stop you."
