"Yes," Jerome said. "He's one of my all-time favorites, actually. I even own a few of his albums-- if you like, you and Marty can borrow them sometime." [Haha, yes. I know exactly what you're referring to. I've never heard "Sweet Leaf" before, but my brother probably knows it. He's into a lot of older bands, whereas I'm mostly into the alternative music of today. Though I also enjoy Alice Cooper (as I mentioned before), the Beatles, and '80's pop and rock.]

"That would be so awesome, Jerome," gushed Artie, flashing a lopsided smile.
"Yeah, same here," agreed Marty. "That's quite generous of you."
OOC: BTW, does your version of Fernald like Black Sabbath?

"Well," said Jerome, "after the two of you been so kind to me, it's the least I can do."
[Aside from The Beatles, I've actually never considered which bands Fernald would be interested in. Now that you mention it, though, mine does seem like the type who would like Black Sabbath. As a matter of fact, I think Fernald and Andrew would share a common ground when it came to music.]

"Well, Jerome, I think you're also very kind," Marty replied, flashing a lopsided smile.
Glancing at the radio alarm clock, Artie asked, "In about two hours. we were gonna meet Doc... Dr. Emmett Brown... at his mansion. Would you, uh, care to join us?"
OCC: By today's standards, I guess Black Sabbath would be considered pretty tame. Back in the '70s, though, they were considered to be about the most shocking group around.

"Sure," said Jerome. "Would it be alright if I used your phone, though? My mother insists I call her if I'm going to be late getting home." He knew that must have sounded a bit strange coming from someone who was nearing nineteen years old. But he had lived under his parents' roof for so long, that the thought of breaking one of their rules caused his stomach to tense. [Yeah, I imagine that Black Sabbath would have been a lot more controversial during the 1970's as compared to the bands of today. I think the same can be said of KISS. By the way, have you ever seen the movie Almost Famous? It just occurred to me that that's a movie I think you'd really enjoy, if you haven't seen it already. ]

"Sure, you can use the phone," Marty replied, smiling.
OOC: I think Alice Cooper and David Bowie were a couple of others. David Bowie also starred in the 1986 movie, Labyrinth. I'll definitely be sure to check out Almost Famous.

Jerome left the bedroom and followed the twins downstairs to the kitchen where the telephone was. While Jerome made his call, Marty and Artie waited for him in the living room.
The telephone rang five times before someone picked up, followed by the voice of Cora Squalor.
"Good evening," she said. "Squalor residence."
"Mother?" Jerome replied. "It's me. Listen, would it be alright with you if I didn't come home for dinner tonight?"
"Jerome? Where are you, dear?"
"I'm at a friend's house."
"A friend's house?" Cora asked, and Jerome couldn't ignore the joy in his mother's voice. "You've made a friend already?"
"Yes," replied Jerome, and smiled to himself. "Two, actually. Brothers. They go to my school."
"Oh, Jerome," Cora gushed. "That's wonderful news! I'm so happy for you."
"So it's alright if I stay out an extra hour?"
"Of course. Just as long as you're home by ten."
"I will be, Mother," Jerome said. "I promise."
[ Labyrinth is one of my all-time favorite movies-- I was about five the first time I watched it. I own the soundtrack, too. And yes, I did hear something about Alice Cooper being a bit controversial in the 1970's as well.]

Okay if we skip ahead a couple hours, now?
"Are you feeling all right, Jerome?" asked Marty, as he noticed how his new friend seemed to be so nervously. He hoped desperately that Jerome wouldn't think of his scientist friend as a "crackpot".
"We're almost there," added Artie, flashing a lopsided smile. "Just one block to go."
OCC: Yeah, it's an awesome movie. I'm even doing a mega-crossover fanfic that includes characters from the movie. Also, with the Doc of this universe being in the VFD, I think he would be more careful to not burn down his mansion.

[Oh, yes, of course. ] "I'm fine," Jerome answered in a small, timid voice that made him seem more like a small child of five rather than a young man of eighteen. "It's just that... I tend to get anxious whenever I'm about to meet someone new." [It's awesome that you're doing an extensive crossover fic for Labyrinth. Does it involve characters from Back to the Future as well? I'll love to read it once you've finished it. I actually wasn't a big fan of crossovers until I read your BTTF-ASoUE stuff, so thank you for changing my mind on that, Quags. ]

"Well, buddy, you have nothing to worry about," assured Marty, as he gave Jerome's arm a gentle squeeze. He then flashed a lopsided smile at his new friend.
OOC: Hey, thanks! Yeah, it includes characters from BTTF. None from ASOUE, though.

As Jerome returned Marty's smile, the stockbroker's son began to feel a little more at ease.
"Thanks," said Jerome. "I just hope you're right, Marty."
[You're welcome! I know I've got no idea what your fanfic is about, but I can really picture Jennifer being sought after by Jereth. ;D]

Marty swallowed, as the trio headed up the driveway to Doc's mansion.
"Marty! Artie!" exclaimed Doc, as he stepped out of his garage. "How nice to see you?" Noticing Jerome, he asked, "So, who might your new friend be?"

On the trek over to the home of Marty and Artie's scientist friend, Jerome had done his best to relax. Logically, he knew there was no real reason to feel as nervous as he did. But his shyness seemed determined to convince him of something else completely.
Still, Jerome kept in mind what his father was always telling him about the importance of "keeping up appearances". Hoping he wasn't shaking too much for it to be noticeable in the fading light, he extended a hand to Doc.
"I'm Jerome Squalor," Jerome said. "It's very nice to meet you, sir."

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Jerome," Doc replied, as he extended his hand. "I have some Pepsis in the refrigerator, if you guys are feeling thirsty."
Doc tried not to let his nervousness show. Still, what if the twins' new friend actually took him for a "nutcase"?

"Hello," Jerome replied, and offered the scientist an anxious smile. "And that's very kind of you-- I know I could certainly do with something to drink."
