I really like those, Groge!
Going back to Sherry-Ann's ideas I came up with some ideas for TBB's chapters. I tried to make the titles like the number of the chapter.
Ch1- One morning at the beach Ch2- Two unpleasant siblings ch3- Three recipe books ch4- Four hours of cooking ch5- Five minutes with a banker ch6- Six worrying thoughts ch7- Seven difficult law books ch8- Eight hours reading ch9- Nine feet above the ground ch10- Ten seconds of dark suspense ch11- Eleven watching eyes ch12- Twelve acts in a play ch13- Thirteen outraged audience members

Nice numerical motif, Brunch; of course, if it was in the books themselves, it'd be very hard to keep to. Or rather, you'd definitely have to write for it, in the same way the books probably have to be written quite carefully for a thirteen-chapter structure. Sophie Baudelaire, some of your titles are quite dark, but we have to remember there's more to the series than whimsy; I like the Used/Abused pairing, also.

@dante: Thanks! I agree that they are pretty dark; I tried to make them as "unfortunate-sounding" as possible. But I do really like some of the titles Groge suggested.

Definitely enjoy Sophie's super serious ones. ASOUE has always been a dark series for me...

Clearly texts from the school of thought that brought us, in the U.A., The Most Handsome Man in the World and Why, I Believe I've Become Even More Handsome! Actually, I seem to recall that some of the movie spin-off books might've had back-cover synopses written by Olaf. Yes indeed. These are TWW's, which resemble Countess Violet's titles closely: Back coverInside flapBack flapBrunch, I think the chapter titles you've constructed are creative; I can visualize the small writing under each (e.g., CHAPTER ONE morning at the beach).

I believe TBB's synopsis can be read here, and TRR's here (using the Browse Inside feature). I meant to mention also that Sophie's titles are well-chosen. I particularly like the double meaning in "overlooked," punning on Aunt Josephine's obsessive watch over the children. Or not? "Isolated," too, captures one of TE's major themes.

@sherry-Ann: Thank-you! Thanks also for posting those links, where are they from?

They're all movie tie-ins, that is to say, hardcover versions of the book with dusk jackets inspired by the movie. It looks like they were all published on the same date, which was a little over a month before the movie in December of 2004. The links themselves are just from sellers who allow you to preview Olaf's synopsis.

B. really like your numbering system! Can almost see it laid out on the page now. Instead of just 'Chapter One' it could have 'One' and then directly below it 'morning at the beach'. So it could actually be read two ways I suppose. either as one title or the chapter number with a sub heading

The Horrible Hospital 9. The Fraud Fortuneteller 10. The Mean Mountains 11.The Sinister Sea 12. The Cruel Convention 13. The Untrue Utopia Not final though, I'll make one that really represents the book.

You've done a fine job already of keeping the alliteration and even some letters to which the canon corresponds. Might I suggest 13. The Utopian Uniform, referring to the islanders' robes?

Those are really good, kimoz17 - so good that I feel no qualms about saying that you could have done better for THH. You could go with something like The Invalid Institution, say.

Or possibly The Half-finished Hospital, only that doesn't eliminate the problem of dual usage for the letter H, and it's hyphenated. So perhaps not. The Incomplete Institution?
