You've done a fine job already of keeping the alliteration and even some letters to which the canon corresponds. Might I suggest 13. The Utopian Uniform, referring to the islanders' robes? The reason why I picked The Untrue Utopia is despite Ishmael's effort to create a perfect environment or community (Utopia), hidden within the shadows are the villagers secretly not abiding his rule. Even Ishmael himself is breaking a few rules. So it's an Untrue Utopia. :)) Those are really good, kimoz17 - so good that I feel no qualms about saying that you could have done better for THH. You could go with something like The Invalid Institution, say. How about "The Infernal Infirmary"? :))

I'll change The Mean Mountains to The Malignant Mountains.

Nice. I agree your title for TE was more fit to content; I was actually going for sound. (In fact, "Austere Academy" has always bothered me a bit.)

The Austere Economy... no, that's not right.

The Insane Institution? Nah, that sounds like a lunatic asylum. Edit: The Insidious Institution?

Bumping this because it's struck me that Murder! would have been a lot more fit for TVV, with the death of Jacques and the presence of crows. TRR might instead exclaim Poison!, which conveys more or less the same message.

That would've indeed fitted the books more suitably. I'm quite bitter that the enhanced paperback editions of ASoUE didn't get past the third book. We'll never know Snicket's secret message and won't get to see any more of Helquist's beautiful artwork depicting the Snicket universe. Also, The Hostile Hospital's paperback title could be Flatline!

I wouldn't change the titles of the beginning/End or second-to-last title, but I'd change the rest. It spells out half of a sentence, but without knowing the rest you can't tell whether it's good or bad. Bad Beginning A (TBD - to be determined) U (TBD) D (TBD) E (TBD) L (TBD) A (TBD) I (TBD) R (TBD) E (TBD) S (TBD) Penultimate Peril End

That would be quite satisfying, wouldn't it? For TGG as "S," you could quite easily have something like "The Struggling Submarine" or "The Submarine Schism." For TMM, "The Disastrous Drudgery"? For TEE... well, being British, for me it's no problem to replace a title about elevators with "The Lamentable Lift."

The problem for The Ersatz Elevator is that their isn't a L word that means the same as ersatz.

"Ersatz" is definitely one of the best words to be included in an ASoUE volume title, but it also doesn't fit the broader pattern of the first word just being an adjective synonymous with "bad." Which is good, but also means, for the purposes of this exercise, that it can be replaced with something that fits more smoothly with the rest of the group.
