You mean as an allusion to TBL? That'd be interesting to try.

Yes, expressing our appreciation for ASoUE is a wonderful idea.
One question: if you choose to do a story, what's the page limit? My stories tend to be lengthy, but I can certainly shorten them. Is four pages okay, or should it be less?

It depends, I suppose, on font size, width, what format you're using... I think we should keep the stories to a minimum of, say, two or three pages? Just so we don't end up compiling masses of text.

Any fanart would probably be great. Simple messages of gratitude, would also work nicely I assume. What if we wrote some ASOUE songs? And recorded them?

Thanks, Sherry Ann. Two or three pages works out perfectly - I just wanted to check first before I started writing something.
When I write stories, I type them in a regular ten point Palatino font, and then twelve point Verdana for the title. But I'll substitute the latter with something smaller to free up as much space as possible.

I think if everyone does what they're best at, we should have a pretty good variety to put together (and then shall we make a table of contents?). Also, an idea for the cover: we can put the reasons why we like ASOUE there, in bunches of font and color, and then have all the fan material?

Stealing Dante's idea: A Series of Dedicated Fans: The 667 Letters.

Also, an idea for the cover: we can put the reasons why we like ASOUE there, in bunches of font and color, and then have all the fan material? A table of contents is a must, so I say we go for it! The same goes for the cover idea. LOVE IT. Any fanart would probably be great. Simple messages of gratitude, would also work nicely I assume. What if we wrote some ASOUE songs? And recorded them? That'll be a great idea! And it'll also be neat if we play those on an accordion. I immediately thought of you when I read that! Do you sing/play any instruments? If so, you can contribute one of your ASoUE songs that way.

The 667 Letters sounds interesting... We should each contribute to it -- those who are good in writing should write, those who can draw/do awesome graphic stuff should do the illustrations and stuff. ( This is what we sent last year).

There's plenty of time. We probably won't need to start compiling all the material together for another three weeks. Then we can take a couple of days to arrange it all in order, write up a table of contents and framing letter, and send it. I'll volunteer to do that, if you like, since my own submission was finished a little while ago. You would need me or Tragedy to send it anyway.
Re: Length: My fanfic is a behemoth, so everyone else should try and stay within four pages or we'll be forcing Handler to spend all his time ploughing through his birthday material rather than working on the new series, and we can't have that. For artistic submissions, anything should be fine so long as it fits comfortably on screen without needing to scroll or resize it significantly, but I expect you already adhere to this standard! Musical submissions are a bit more difficult, but so long as the file size is reasonable and the format is something he can probably play, we could add those as e-mail attachments... oh, or put it on YouTube or Photobucket.
Edit: Emma, as moderator of FFanwork, could you start sounding out individuals who might want to contribute art or stories?

I can do some linearts if someone wants his/her fanfiction to be illustrated, but I have to get it done before the 12th of February, I won't have a scanner at my disposal after that. I think I may try to finish one of my fanfictions so I can send it to him... We'll see. We should also make a "why we love Lemony Snicket" thread so people can submit their letters.

Good idea. A thread specifically for people to submit their words of thanks would be a good idea, as people who aren't so artistic or don't have the time can just submit a dedication there. I'll probably use that. I just want to take another day or two to make sure we know what we're doing and have everything straightened-out.
I'm also toying with an idea about an alternative method of sending this to him, but more details on that later.

I think we should send it to him in a pdf., just to keep it organized. I can use my newly-found table-making skills to do the table of contents, but we can work out the details later. For now, I've made some guidelines to keep in mind while working on your project, which are more or less a variation of what Dante's already written:
Fanfiction: Try to keep it within 2-3 pages, maximum 4. Music: Compatible format, preferably under four minutes. Art/Drawing: Just keep it within a reasonable size, and add a caption to make it easy to identify.
