As you probably know, Daniel Handler's birthday is coming up this February 28th. What shall we give him that will show our appreciation for his work and our unwavering fandom for Lemony Snicket's genius masterpieces?
We have 25 days. Discuss.

Hmmm, I don't know...(uh, helpfull). What do you think? Something that won't cost and everyone, who is dedicated, can contribute to.

It's possible for us to send him something electronically; that's what we did last year, I believe. We usually package together fan-work of some kind; I've got a fanfic lined up that I think he might enjoy.

Sounds good! Who gets to sign it? Do you have to meet a criteria?

Actually, we have 24 days. Have to have it ready the day before, preferably.
We could make a "Why We Love Lemony" collage, with all the reasons we appreciate his work in a visual version. I think if the fanfic's short, that could work. If we're going to send him something by mail, it'll have to be ready earlier; I say we go via e-mail.

Collage sounds really cool, some fanart, birthday messages (written in code?). Who gets to contribute?

Everyone contributes, in one way or another. We could ask Elle or tk if they could do any graphics, and all of us could write a reason we like his work?
Also, I just noticed this was an announcement. I have no idea how that happened.

Sounds good. How were you thinking collage? With a picture in the background? Or lots of little pictures and boxes for writing- like a scrapbook?

I don't know... Some fanart in the back, and then for those of us artistically challenged we could write the reasons in text and then someone with graphic skills could put it in an interesting font and fit the drawings in?

Yep, sounds amazing. Are you going to contact some people to help?

I Announcement-ised the thread, Sherry Ann. I think this is suitably important.
Last year, I think, we did a card with all our scanned signatures on it... but that was a relatively last-minute effort. I'd say people should play to their individual strengths. Add what you're personally best at to a fuller package. Art, story, some other token of your appreciation. I really like the idea of all of us writing a reason why we like his work; perhaps that could be the benchmark, and anything further we can add individually is a bonus?
So we could have a kind of framing letter, and then after that a bunch of individual pages, each with a person explaining why they appreciate aSoUE, and then any special contribution they can muster. Not required, but nice if you can add it.
Edit: You don't have to use that idea, I just can't keep up with the rate you're typing at.

I like Dante's idea, maybe a mixture? I think maybe an electronic SC RA Pbook? Each contributor does a page and an artistically talented person does a front cover, then a collective birthday wish from 667, then each dedicated member does an a4 page with poems/ art etc with apreciation etc? So, when compiled its like a book? I shall catch up with this tomorrow as it is time for sleep.

Of course, we'd have to limit the page numbers so we don't end up writing a novel, but I think if everyone did something to their specialty- a poem, short story, drawing, etc.- we'd end up having a great present.

Aye, I'll be back to hear what ideas you've come up with tomorrow. But I think we have a few core ideas here: Creative work of various kinds, personal messages, framing device (be it an arty cover or a general letter).
Edit: The 667 Letters. Think about it.
