Yeah I'm not seeing a joke. But it's a great response!

I don't get it, but I don't mind. Knowing he received it and that he wrote back...I wonder if he read everything...*o* *happiness*

You know, I just noticed: This note doesn't have a "From" on it.

For those of you who don't get why other people find the response so funny... Well it's probably that you got the joke and simply weren't particulary amused. Otherwise, you've got to remember that 1) the reply is written on a yellow crumpled page and that 2) the reply's text ends with "All I had was typing on a crumpled yellow page that said :" It basically creates a never-ending vortex of logical associations since the reply's text actually describes itself. All I had was typing on a crumpled yellow page that said : "All I had was typing on a crumpled yellow page that said : "All I had was typing on a crumpled yellow page that said : "All I, etc."
It reminds me of that classic blonde joke : How to drive a blonde mad ? Response : give her a sheet of paper with "flip over" written on both sides.
Except Handler managed to make that joke much more subtly and to put an obscure literary reference in it. ;D

Yeah, that's what I assumed the joke meant. Except I didn't say anything publicly, because I thought there was a possibility I could be wrong. XD
And you're right about it being very similar to the blonde joke! LOL

Yes, thank you thedoctorwell for clarifying that.
I wonder, now, why he didn't put who was sending the note- it could technically be from anyone.

Even I don't know who it's really from.

Okay it turns out I got it but I just didn't consider it a joke.
Unless one of us has Dante's address, then it's probably from Handler.

It was an e-mail, but it wasn't sent directly to me, it passed through someone else first. My statement was a joke on that, although of course we can guess who it's ultimately from.

We can guess, but there isn't hard proof it's from Handler. Do you know who originally recieved it?

It's not as complicated as you're making this sound. I'm not going to go into the details of the exactly what occurs behind the curtain, because it should be a chain of mysteries as impenetrable as anything from the series. Suffice to say that the only ambiguity is whether this is from Daniel Handler or is "in-character" from Lemony Snicket.
