I lost track of it and I'm not really clear on what it is. So... what is it, exactly?

Pottermore is an online reading experience. There are quotes from the books. People move through the books by experiencing "moments" in each chapter. A moment is like a scene from the story, and you can click around and collect objects and read new material by JK Rowling. You can also get sorted (I'm in Gryffindor). The sorting hat quiz was written by JK Rowling herself and the questions are so random (forest or sea?) that it is impossible to cheat. I personally expected to be in Ravenclaw/Hufflepuff, but I was surprised. Once you have been sorted you can duel and brew potions to earn house points and try to win the house cup for your house!

I got sorted into Hufflepuff. I was a little surprised by that, but thinking it over I guess it does fit me.
It doesn't take very long to get through; I finished in about two hours and I read/explored everything. Afterwards, you can brew potions, but they're a good thing to do while you're studying or doing something else on the computer because you start them, let them brew for 80 to 100 minutes, then finish them, and then if you followed every finicky instruction perfectly then you get a completed potion and some points for your house. I have brewed three successful potions and made several failed ones.

Not yet; a friend of mine got in and was sorted into Hufflepuff, and I can't wait to join her. Around the internet though, I've seen people who were displeased with the House they were sorted into asking/bartering with other people on Pottermore in order to trade accounts and sneak into the House of their choice. Which should earn them an automatic ticket to being re-sorted into Slytherin in my opinion...

I knew about it, but hadn't checked the site or heard of the quill challenge (whatever the thing that involved getting passwords was called) until it was over. I was on vacation during that time. It's open to everyone to everyone in october though right?
As to people's displeasure with their house, I haven't thought of myself in any particular house yet. So I guess I'm lucky on that part.

I'm not a beta member, but I WANT to sign up to Pottermore. How did you guys became beta members anyway? Do you need some sort of money to register?

I got sorted into Hufflepuff. I was a little surprised by that, but thinking it over I guess it does fit me. A read a description of Hufflepuff online. Their common room sounds awesome. I don't know what people have against Hufflepuff-it seems like a great house! I agree with you Nominatissima. They should be grateful they got in in the first place! There was a challenge between Jul 31-Aug 8. There were seven days to take a chance at the challenge. I was very Lucky and got in on day 1! Once the challenge was completed, members got to sign up, but you couldn't do anything yet. You had to wait for a welcome email. It was very frustrating. I got my welcome mail at the end of August, but some got there's as late as the end of September. Anyway now there are 1 million users all playing Pottermore. I believe the site will open to everyone at the end of October. For more info you might want to check out insider.pottermore.com/.

I Know I was very lucky to get in as a beta tester, it was originally going to open in October, but for some reason they're are extending the period (by quite a lot) to make "better changes". i think it's a little lame....

I hope so too, so other people can join in. The trial thing was done in August. One thing that really annoys me though: Some people, can you believe, made more than 1 account! Some accounts were sold online, or some people just have like, three, accounts which are unused!
