I've been thinking of running a collaborative fic this summer, so tying it into the anniversary could be a good idea. Entrants would write a single chapter to an ongoing fic, aiming to imitate a full Snicket novel. It would also be possible to accept audience input on plot direction and other things to be included in the story. So that's something I intend to work out sometime. Bringing back Weird Ship Week I'm sure would appeal to many, as would a Wildest Speculation contest for the most tenuous theories, so those are good ideas of Sherry Ann's.

A special edition of the 667er? YES. Definitely. A jumbo version. That would be awesome. And everyone would contribute, with articles, pictures, short stories and things. Or we could just base it off the old 667er, e.g. Rant, Unadvice Column, Subjective Flaneur, etc. *gets excited*

A few of us have expanded the U.A. map in the past to include other locations from ASoUE, and that was very enjoyable, so maybe we could have a map contest. People could draw their own expanded map, PM them to an organiser in time for a deadline, and then have a panel judge which is the best or most interesting. Actually, such maps may or may not tie into the Wildest Speculation contest...

Wow. You do lurk a lot, don't you? Who? Kensicle, despite having registered only a few days ago, seems to be quite knowledgeable about 667's history. But a lot of us lurked for a while before registering, I imagine; I know I did.

Another idea: An All The Wrong Questions prediction contest. Submit a prediction which you have no evidence for but which isn't impossible, and we'll see which ones end up being true. With prizes?

That does sound like a good idea, but it seems quite similar to the most outlandish theory contest (or something along those lines). I think the new series is definitely the key focus point.

I like this idea. If everyone contributes a bunch of ideas we'll soon have an entire database of possibilities out of which one random guess is bound to come true! The only problem with rewards, or even recognition, though, is that participants would have to wait for results until October. We'll probably want an activity to do on the day itself, too, i.e., an activity that requires little or no preparation. Maybe some sort of trivia contest, in which a question is posted at periodic intervals and answers are PMed to a judge? I've also had an idea for a thread inspired by the transcript in the UA that would involve members referring to each other by their first initial, making references to secret objects and hidden vehicles, firing off wild accusations and pleas for explanations, and updating each other on progress made to a mysterious organization, which no one seems to know much about. To make things more interesting members could impersonate/represent one another.

You wouldn't necessarily have to wait until October. The theories could be narrowed down to the most likely/detailed ones and then the winner could be voted upon.
There could be a "come as your favourite character day" where members changed their avatar and username to impersonate their chosen character.

Profile theming sounds like a good idea, although it might be better to extend the festivities to a week in that case.

Even so, there wouldn't be the immediate gratification that came with, say, a story contest. Then there would be the question as to which predictions could be truly ruled out, and which ones came close "enough." Well, I guess that would be true even if we had the actual book in front of us. I was actually thinking about something along those lines. Favorite ASOUE characters might be a little too narrow, since we don't want twenty Violets, but some sort of theme could be put in order.

Another idea, - we could have contest to see who could create a new skin with a theme of '667 10 years' or 'ATWQ'. And then we could have that new skin for a week. I understand, I was never a lurker - I just jumped right in. Maybe Kensicle is DH in disguise, trying to befriend people and gather information LOL!!!! Omg that would be AWESOME! Unlikely but very very awesome. How did you guess?! Sorry to shatter your fancies, but I'm not DH in disguise, although I agree that that would be awesome. (That's funny, when I showed the forum to my little brother he was convinced Dante was DH in disguise.)

To make things more interesting members could impersonate/represent one another. You mean something like a chat thread, where we would impersonate VFD members? That seems like a good idea. Brunch's role-playing idea seems good too, but I agree with Sherry Ann, we don't want many repeated characters. Although I don't see another way to do it. That guest list is pretty big and there aren't enough ASOUE characters for them all. The only thing to do is to advise the members to try choosing a bit more unpopular characters, I think.
