Have we ever seen a picture of Beatrice before? I'm not sure, thought, that the picture of her does mean she will play a larger role. It would be very Helquist-like to base an illustration on something just mentioned in passing, and almost irrelevant to eh main plot. We haven't seen direct illustrations of Beatrice before, but her silhouette appears on the cover of The Beatrice Letters. As regards the illustrations, aside from the fact that it's Seth illustrating now and not Helquist (a slip of the tongue only, I imagine), but either way I don't think that the illustration of Beatrice here is meaningful. It's an interesting scene to illustrate, and we also have to remember that Beatrice isn't really a mystery any more.

I did in fact mean Helquist-like - that is, Seth is working in the tradition of Snicket illustrators here.
By the way, I'm reminded of a scene in the WWBU promotion, where there was a woman whose boyfriend had left here waiting in the middle of a station.

It's interesting, though, because I've read a comment on Seth that says he's somewhat similar - he purely does his own thing rather than what's necessarily appropriate.

A thought has occurred to me: we've been assuming the girl in the station is Beatrice, but might it be Kit? I'm sure B was the person L said goodbye to too quickly, but can we be sure that the person he meant to meet up with and measure holes was the same? We know from the Educator's Guide that Kit will figure in some way: and the fact that there's a promotional thingy asking 'who is the girl in the station?' suggests that this isn't meant to be obvious, and is in some way relevant to the plot.

I'm not sure what the point of the misdirection would be. The hint of the bat-shaped tape measure seems fairly clear-cut. And I think the caption on the Facebook page is probably playing on the fact that most casual Facebook readers won't have read all the preview chapters, and in any case it's the first illustration in the book so it's a mystery on first encounter anyway.

The thing is that if they are making a teaser of 'Who is the girl in the station?', one presumes that it will actually be answered somewhere - whereas we were assuming that Beatrice wasn't actually part of the story, and this was just a side-reference for the benefit of ASOUE fans. Well, perhaps she does come into the story after all. But we know Kit does. And the EG suggests Hector is complaining about Lemony leaving Kit behind, which does fit what happened with the girl on the station.
