Right-oh, Mr Snicket. Let's discuss.

Only just too late, Lemona! I suspect that Snicket will have to carry his and his chaperone's luggage around when they decide on where they're staying (The Lost Arms, perhaps?). Is it me, or does it look like Seth originally wrote "L.S." on the tag and then erased it? I don't think that detail will be "canon," though.
Edit: Oh, and for that matter, I suspect that this is foreshadowing S. Theodora Markson's death.

*rolls eyes at myself* Oh, dear. Sorry about that, Dante, and thanks for fixing it up. My official comments will follow, but I've got to go now.

Don't worry about it. I nearly missed this one myself, as I've been busy with work.

Is it just me, or are these promotions becoming a little more regular? Lets see, the last one was two weeks ago exactly. Not as regular as they first were, but more than the three weeks we'd being seeing previously. It really makes me wonder if this was material originally going to be used on the planned website release in May.

Guys - you don't think Lemony will try and kill Markson, do you? I mean, what if VFD assigned him to do that and that's why he picked her name from the list?

Curious. Lemony Snicket left his luggage behind- will this be referred to later in the book? The cross-hatched suitcase looks like the "small, bruised suitcase", filled with "unremarkable clothes, designed not to create attention". Funeral attire probably does not fall into this category. Very sorry for the impertinence.

somewheresafetosea, Theadora mentioned that she'd acquired some clothes for Lemony, so that is presumably the suitcase she's assigned to him, which may therefore include funeral attire. I've been considering that the lines in the caption may apply to her.
johanna, I don't see Lemony assassinating anyone in cold blood or being hired to, as a nearly-thirteen-year-old or not, but I do agree that there still seems to be a lot of mystery around the circumstances of his chaperoning.

I think you're right Dante, it does look like he wrote LS at first.
As for who it's about, I think it's either Theodora talking to Lemony, or it's a bit of narration by Lemony. I feel like it's more the first though.

I think it would have a "You should" on the front if Lemony were the one saying it. Without, it sounds a bit more like an imperative, and therefore that shifts it into something inside the narrative which would be better-suited to S. Theadora.

So I guess the smaller suitcase is Lemony's. And yes, I think it's something said by S. Theodora, which is also implied by having the "S.T.M" under the text, like a source of the quote. Strange that Seth first wrote "L.S." on it though.

Strange that Seth first wrote "L.S." on it though. Unless it was deliberately put in. Although I doubt it'll feature at all in the plot, as this is draft work.

Just had an idea that's almost certainly wrong, but hey. I realised that S. Theodora Markson's misplaced self-confidence and bragging reminded me a lot of Count Olaf, so how's this for a theory: She's Olaf's mother. I'm sure this won't be true, but... but here I am posting it anyway.

It's an interesting theory, but as you say unlikely. I was also beginning to think about Johanna's theory, although I doubt I thirteen year old would be assigned to kill someone, especially since he is supposed to be working for the noble side of the schism.
Edit: If she was his mother, would she be divorced or simply kept her last name of "Markson" or are we not bothering to think that deeply about wild speculation?
