There are a couple of shady things about this listing, but that may be because of the extremely preliminary nature of any listing for a book that won't be released for over a year. Still, it's a sign of progress, the first time the much-delayed pirate novel has ever appeared on retailer listings. We'd heard before that it would probably be out in 2014, so this is actually one of the better dates it could've been.

That's really early for preordering something. So early that I could order it now and forget it and have a nice surprise in February 2014 if I weren't here where people will be talking about it.

There are a few non-Amazon listings for this as well, but none with additional information. 2012 turned out to be a false alarm; let's hope 2014 bears more promise.

I dig the title. I hope it's going to be some kind of Don Quijote-esque story--great opportunity for Handler's wit and humor to get the spotlight.

Sorry about bumping an old thread without really contributing anything, but... if the information we have here is correct, We Are Pirates is due to be out in a mere three days. Somehow I don't think this is really going to happen, as we have still yet to see a cover or promotion of any kind. Has anyone seen more information crop up about this in the last year?

I've been meaning to provide an update on this, but you're right, at this point it seems incredibly unlikely that that February release date is going to stand. I've e-mailed the publishers asking for more information, but in my experience, quite often they don't answer such e-mails. I can only presume that the book was delayed once again - or the February date was always some kind of misunderstanding. The title is sound, though, as Mr. Handler confirms it in this interview, and earlier information indicated that the novel was set for 2014, so everything lined up. It's a little bit mysterious. |

Oh dear. More things getting in the way again? I suppose five books by Messrs Handler and Snicket in one year was a bit much to hope for.
