Ace observation, Mister M! And a much-improved cover, I think.

Yes, isn't it a beauty? And can we assume the 'she' is ellington?

Yes, isn't it a beauty? And can we assume the 'she' is ellington? I imagine it could mean many different people at many different times in the story. Recall that the plot apparently involves a missing (kidnapped?) girl.

Not moxie, I hope, as I totally love her. But I cant think of many candidates we know except for - Moxie - Ellington - Theodora - Kit - Beatrice? But then its most likely an entirely new person whom we've never heard of.

It also looks like we get a good look at the "chemist" the stanzas revealed to us - Dr. Flammarion, I presume? Or is that a presumption too far at this stage? Is that building the Sallis mansion again? Is that silhouette Hangfire? At least it looks like Ink Inc. will play a more prominent role in the plot... Also, is that thing in the bowl a... a baby octopus, or a baby Bombinating Beast, or what?

And is everything going to be purple?

That's my assumption, if you're referring to the internal illustrations. It doesn't seem inappropriate. It's a very moody purple. I approve. In fact, that cover definitely says to me that they took on board some of our issues with the ?1 cover; while that cover grew on me, I definitely think this cover, and particularly the image of Flammarion(?), does a much better job of exhibiting Seth's talent.
...That silhouette's got to be Hangfire. The featureless head suggests the mask he uses to hide his face, but what gives the game away is the clawed hand.
Edit: And the speculative chemist has got to be Flammarion - the original Flammarion was French, and the chemist's wearing a beret!

A book cover and a man talking to himself. Only the Lemony Snicket fandom can understand the perfection of this form.

Definitely a much better cover than ?1! I'm also getting a definite horror/mad-scientist vibe from the imagery, and from the color scheme. What really intrigues me is that thing in the fishbowl-- it doesn't look like a baby octopus but there are other interesting possibilities. Such as a larval Great Unknown or a Lachrymose Leech (which I have suspected of being the same thing).

The announcement also appears on the ATWQ Facebook, LemonySnicketLibrary Tumblr, Snicketmail, and Egmont's homepage. See the other threads for details!

The title and cover look great. I still need to read the first one!

One thing I think is interesting is that some of our concerns about ?1's early announcement period seem to have been addressed. As I noted above, a lot of us thought ?1's cover art was a bit too simplistic in relation to the rest of Seth's work on the volume, and a lot of the entertaining announcement material for ?1 was buried in private press releases that we had a hard time finding. This time, the cover's far more detailed and all the announcement material has been made public. Very much a good sign! Also of note is that the first Snicketmail for ?1 came the day after Handler's birthday; this year, it's on his birthday... Mr. Handler's birthday will evidently be the day to watch in the coming years.
Also, with ?1 blue and ?2 purple, does it seem reasonable to assume that ?3 and ?4 will be green and red, possibly respectively?
Edit: Silly numerical speculation: ?1 has a seven-word title and a six-panel cover. ?2 has a six-word title and a five-panel cover. Could ?3 have a five-word title and four-panel cover, and ?4 a four-word title and three-panel cover? Probably not, but it's worth thinking about!

It's starting And that's very much for one moment, a cover, a title, a release date, and a trailer. I like these speculation, though the second probably won't happen.
