Last year there was a thread to discuss about changing the tratitional 13 categories or not. In the end the categorie "Most Improved" was replaced by "Best Profile Decoration". Last year the categories were: -Best New Member -Best Profile Decoration -Best Thread -Most Active -Best Writer -Funniest Member -Most Valued Poster -Best Story -Most Unfortunate -Best Pairing -Most Notorious -Best Artist -Most Compassionate Do we want to keep these? Or are there any new suggestions?

Most Active, most unfortunate and most notorious seem like the only ones there that could really go. I think "Most Active" seems like less of a thing you get voted as, and more of a thing that is statistically true. Just my thoughts. Like you, I am new to this whole she-bang. Maybe some gag awards? Like (as a wild example) most dedicated to Teen Wolf. Not that necessarily, but something maybe like that but not that but like it.

I thought of something like a Best Organiser award, because there have been so many things like WSW, Secret Santa, and of course the 667er (though it's difficult to compare things that happen monthly to things that happened only once). I don't really like the idea of having gag awards, not as part of the "real" Darkies. Maybe as a separate thing later, if people like it?

Best Organiser seems like a good idea, as there has been a lot of organising in recent months. In terms of awards that might be displaced, I'm not entirely sure what "Most Valued Poster" does that isn't just an agglomeration of other awards; that is, what distinguishes the Most Valued Poster from the Most Compassionate, the Funniest? Isn't it just the most of everything else, just all at once rather than separately? It seems potentially redundant to me, although I can see why that very unity might distinguish it from others. I just think there's room for manoeuvre if people have a strong new award in mind.

I'm inclined to agree with Charlie on Most Active - for more or less the same reasons, but additionally I think people were unclear on the balance of quantity and quality inherent in this award last year, and argued we should call it something else or be rid of it entirely. I also think this is another spot to eliminate redundancy. If we're talking about quality, the posts probably fall into one of the other categories. I'm in favor, then, of replacing this award with Best Organizer (and we should come to some sort of agreement about the spelling of it, too).

I think Most Active and Most Valued Poster are both more or less awards for people who are important and do a lot for 667, but don't really fit in one of the other categories, Most Active more for the quantity and Most Valued Poster for quality. Maybe we could make a combination or something between these two things.

I think that Most Valued Poster encompasses what you're aiming for, and we could just drop Most Active?

I'm in favor, then, of replacing this award with Best Organizer (and we should come to some sort of agreement about the spelling of it, too). It should be spelt with an "S" instead of that "Z"

1. MVP should certainly stay - it's a summing up of all the rest. Of course the MVP is valued because of something more specific, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't pick out one person as specially worthy of honour.
2. '-izer' is a legitimate spelling in British English, being traditionally preferred by Oxford and by The Times . Because Americans always write '-ize' and not '-ise', the idea has grown up that '-ize' is 'the American form' and should be avoided as a nasty Americanism. But this is not really so. So 'best organizer' is fine.
3. 'Most Active' used to be known as 'Most Consistent',and was changed last year. There was some debate about the criteria then, and I think a reasonable explanation was given. It doesn't just mean 'person who posts most'. However, I'd be happy to see it replaced by Best Organiser if that were generally acceptable.
4. I think there was a suggestion at some point of changing Most Unfortunate to Most Questionable, which I think would be a good way of marking the new era. (For the benefit of newcomers: Most Unfortunate isn't for the person who has actually suffered most misfortune during the year, but for the person most devoted to the the works of Lemony Snicket.)

I agree that Most Active/Consistent should be dropped, though MVP needs to stay.
Is "unquestionable" a word? It sort of combines unfortunate and questionable while highlighting the fact that they're asking the wrong questions.

Most Questionable seems like a good idea, though of course we could always combine the two series by being more generic - referring to Snicket in general, I mean. Or take Sixteen's idea and amalgamate the two. I do like Hermes's point, though, of marking the new era; perhaps we can call the category "Most Questionable" this year, then next year look at non-specific alternatives.
