just because i have a sense of humor about a lot of things doesnt mean i have to laugh at a rape joke. this is a really salsaty thing most people don't take seriously and stupid jokes like this just add to it.

how did you mean it then?
i love arguments about stupid salsa probably more than the average person, but this is not a stupid issue and actually something worth talking about. this joke was pretty tame overall but i wanted to say something since everyone who liked the joke was a young dude and like generally speaking young dudes are the ones most oblivious to rape culture and most in need of being informed about it.

While I appreciate your effort to inform people of the gravity of "rape culture," like you say (is that a word?), MisterM didn't imply rape anywhere. His joke wasn't any more offensive than Pepé Le Pew running after a female black cat he thinks is a skunk in order to flirt with her.

Whatever it was meant to mean, it was clearly capable of being read that way. And Terry, I don't think your 'no you're not' helped, since Pandora's reaction showed she was reading it as something horrific, and you were confirming she was right.
I tend not to see eye to eye with Pandora about most things, but I think she's absolutely right this time. Terry, sorry I seem to be picking fights with you - and perhaps I overreacted to the 'piss' thing, which was a pretty harmless joke - but this is more serious.

Yeah, it's not really about what MisterM initially said though, because he's sorry and he knows what it implies now and why it was wrong. More like Terry's attitude- I'm really surprised someone like you who appears (at least) to be so socially and politically educated and then not realise that Rape Culture exists.
It's just important to educate people about it- and by that I mean things like my school health classes teaching young boys the wrongs, and not teaching girls as young as me not to go out at certain times and not to go alone or wear ~inappropriate clothing~

yeah i wanted to see if anyone else was reading it the same way i was because as soon as somebody brings rape up someone else is always quick to be dismissive and claim overreaction. if you're not saying his joke didn't imply anything resulting in dubious consent, then i have no idea why you told me i wasn't reading it wrong.
because then it went down like this.
me: am i reading this wrong? terry: no i also read it as Pepé Le Pew running after a female black cat he thinks is a skunk in order to flirt with her.
that is totally not what it seemed like you were saying.
