also hilarious to me is that im only like third or fourth generation and my family knows where we originated from but are insanely bad at knowing other details. everytime it comes up my aunt says we're like aztecs or mayans or stuff about pancho villa. but it doesnt really matter because it doesnt make us less mexican because thats not even possible. #bornthatwayandwhatever

monoracial poc have tended to define me as white and white people have defined me as forign/exotic
so there needs to be more awareness for multiracial people

literally no one has ever known that im anything more than white without having to be told. which is fine i only get mad when people find out im half mexican and then tell me im actually not because i look white like thats all that matters i guess. and then i have to explain while basically thinking ickle you. My youngest sister is completel white looking and gets similar crap all the time people refuse to believe shes even realted to zahra and i or treat us like we're from different fathers which is kinda hurtful also people tend to ask me if im adopted when im alone with my mum poor little sister. all of the miriam bee's are awesome people.

I kind of always wanted to be "mixed race" (hmm actually more mixed culture I think, especially bilingual as a child. Also saying race when talking about humans is like forbidden here, so I don't really want to say it without the "s) but I'm not, I'm boring.

monoracial poc have tended to define me as white and white people have defined me as forign/exotic so there needs to be more awareness for multiracial people word. i try not to assume based on how people look but its impressive how awful i am because im like "oh or are you black and stuff" or im just like "whatever you are" and stuff i dont mean in a racist way because i dont want to assign a race to anyone but then im just bad at talking.

What would be considered "mixed race"? The mix of two "pure races"? (this also sounds wrong) Because brazilian people are so mixed we don't even know anymore. I know I'm not black nor white nor anything else. And neither are my parents. Sooo.

I guess you could say so, but what I mean is my parents aren't like two different, distinct races (that would give me other specific denominations). Would I still count as mixed race?

That's a good question. I'm white and both my parents are white, but I guess if you wanted to you could call me mixed race because I have mostly English ancestry but there's some Irish and German and Swedish and even a little bit of Norwegian. Generally when people say mixed race it's when the mother and father are different races, or more specifically different skin colors because like with my ancestry it's all white European even if they did come from different countries.

Yup, I'm also mixed, like a good cocktail. I have direct relatives in South America, Poland, Germany, England, as far as culture (Edit:um, I guess I meant countries) go(es). My father used to call me "cholo" sometimes, but I guess I'm a mestizo, although I gotta say I don't place any importance on what they call which mixed race. Like Pen said, there are countries like Brazil or Italy where everything's a big melting pot. I like it, since it gives me kind of a stronger connection to the cultures that go with it, like I feel a bond to the Incas and their history and have also heard stories of WWII from first hand experience.

I specifically made the title "mixed race" and just to clarify- yes, I was also talking about having multiple heritages (as in more than 2). It still counts as mixed. (Now obviously you could say every person on the planet is mixed race, but there comes a point when the bloodline gets so far down, you could argue it doesn't really count anymore). I'm talking about having parents/grandparents from different descent.
I think the "importance" or personal significance on being mixed race does depend on where you are living. As in some global countries have it as very much the norm, but I live in Britain. It would probably be different if I lived near the capital, but I live pretty upnorth Scotland and although Aberdeen prides itself on being ~cosmopolitan~ we still kinda are mainly white. PoC are looked upon as exotic or rare and mixed race even more so here, i guess

also the fact that my family, and particularly us siblings are a mixture of skin colours has always been something people in public here have found somewhat difficult to accept and respect

im lucky that i havent had too many weird experiences because of that. theres people who are probably confused especially when im with my extended family but like i can only think of a couple strangers who have ever said anything. then again there is no way i even would have noticed when i was a kid because i operate at a pretty high level of obliviousness now and it would have been worse then.
fun story when it came time to put info down on the first census that i was alive for i was in maybe like 3rd or 4th grade and there was no way to indicate i was biracial. i normally just filled in one or the other on standardized tests at this time because when i raised my hand in third grade and asked about it everyone was like um put white duh and i was like that doesnt solve my problem, whatever, but anyway.
it was my parents who were filling out the census and they completed the whole thing with time to spare except for the part with my race. dad wanted to say white, mom wanted to say hispanic and they couldnt decide and they ended up being late filling it in. so then theres like a person that comes and helps you if you didnt hand it in and that guy was my best friends dad and he was just like hey guys!!!! lets do this!!! my mom was like we had a problem let me go get our census and he was no i can help, i have one right here, it'll just take a second!!! but she was like no here it is we just need her race and he was like um. so we didn't fill out a new one and it didnt take a second and he couldnt help but my dad wasn't home at the time so they just filled in mexican and were like sucks for you dave.
