I kinda hope Louis CK would have whatever small role in ASoUE. He'd totally fit in with the humour of the series and has a spot on sad clown type of face (not necessarily Larry... maybe one of the freaks or something)

Apparently I've been confusing Kristen Wiig with Kristen Schaal until now. I didn't realise they were different people.
I don't have a very clear image of Esmé, actually. Or rather, I do, but not one that I can think of any specific actor to suitably portray. I'd be much more interested in seeing a different interpretation than what I'm imagining from the books, sort of like what they're doing with Monty. Liam is making a good case for Lady Gaga, though.

Oh, Liam, I'd forgotten about your "Lady Esme" fan art!  It's funny, really. My mum and I were just talking about Gaga this morning. I pointed out that she's seemed to have fallen off the radar as no one speaks of her anymore. And that she hasn't released any new music. (Well, to my knowledge anyway.) It would be totally fun if she made her comeback as Esme, but hey. Wishful thinking. :/ |

Wishful thinking. :/ Ha, my Esme art was merely how I imagined her to look in the books, before I knew who Gaga was (I posted this on this forum in 2010). I made the connection between my imagining and Gaga when a boy commented on the picture with 'Ewww, why did they make her look like Lady Gaga?' I think Gaga would be a fun option and a wonderful way of 'selling' the character, but I'm also excited to see who really does play her in the end! She is a special character. |

I don't know who that is, but her looks could work for Esme.
I hope we'll get a few references to ATWQ - a character cameo or two, maybe, or some item from that series hidden in the background of a scene.

What about flashbacks with The Baudelaire parents? The first scene should def be something like Beatrice and Bertrend in say a library and dad goes "Honey, did you leave the stove on?"
And Beatrice goes "No" and both of them look at each other knowing what's really happening then cut to Baudelaire's at the beach.

Esme is a character I definitely have hopes and fears for (as with every character) most notably that she'll be frightening enough despite being somewhat silly. There's a lot of inherent silliness in her, so I hope the actress and director and writers and don't just view her that way and run with it. Counteract the silliness enough and you'll get a good balance. For instance, the filing cabinet scene should be heart-pounding. As for actress choices, I can most easily picture her as a youngish Eartha Kitt (yeah, that was real helpful Lemona, thanks for the super-practical suggestion).
