Tweet from the Unfortunate Events account. No VFD in the description. Either they're making us work super hard for this one (which I'm all for), or there isn't one. Maybe when Netflix tweets it out there'll be one.

I thought this was an excellent trailer, maybe the best so far. I think I'll dislike NPH's Stephano voice, but hopefully it won't be as bad as the one Carrey did. Scared Aunt Jo: Are the Baudelaires surprised that their aunt is black? That's the only reason I can think of why they wouldn't ask "Are you our Aunt Josephine?" instead of "Do you live with her?". Also, although I know she's probably just scared of mirrors or something similar, I can't help but see the trailer as though she's had her face switched out overnight: Her relatives don't recognise her, and she's shocked when she looks in the mirror. My first thought was that this was the question to Justice Strauss, "Are you married to Count Olaf?", in reverse (they mistake someone who is their guardian for someone who isn't); it does seem like a slightly odd question, but I suppose there may be some context to help understand why they were not expecting that woman to be Josephine. I'm sure there's context to it. Trailers are so cobbled together, most of the conversations you hear are from three different conversations in the series. In fact, Olaf's line like "You probably think I'm awful...you have no idea" is clearly two lines shoved together. So don't read too deeply into any of this, I'd advise. As per Jo, I can see them being left in an empty house, and Jo like...running in and surprising them, and them then asking, "Are you our Aunt Josephine?" No way they're surprised she's black--their Uncle Monty is very clearly not white, so I think they are used to a diverse fam.

It does seem like it should be Very Flavorful Desserts, but that one gives a 404 error instead of a website. (Though clearly they did register the address, so that is probably what's on the shop window).

Maybe when Netflix tweets it out there'll be one. Daniel Handler also still hasn't tweeted about it, though the Lemony Snicket account RT'd a link from a TV critic. Also, if Jacquelyn told the kids to find their Aunt Josephine for information about some secret VFD stuff or whatever and they met a nervous fearful lady instead of an obvious badass spy lady like J.S. that might explain them questioning if she was Jo.

I'd love it if they actually think aunt Jo is this nervous and fragile old woman making a reference to the books and the movie, and turns out is the scared but fabulous Alfre instead.

Tweet from the Netflix account. Says the same thing as the Unfortunate Events one. I'm combing through the trailer literally frame by frame in an attempt to find a VFD other than the Desserts one but I haven't found anything yet. I'm about to try and see if I can catch any Sebald Code or something, but it may be a while before I can finish that task.

I am with everyone that this is a terrific trailer and makes me more excited for the show. One slightly unusual thing I noticed, though, was that they copied the shot from the 2004 movie of Stephano stopping the door to Monty's home with a large hunting knife.
Also it's odd that they registered VeryFlavorfulDesserts, but not VariousFlavorfulDesserts, since the shop window in the trailer clearly begins with a "VA_" not a "VE_". Maybe there's another word starting with VA that we haven't thought of?

Maybe there's another word starting with VA that we haven't thought of? Personally, I think the reason there are certain shots that are copied is because Barry Sonnenfeld (whose directing a few episodes of the show as well as being an executive producer) was originally supposed to direct the film. I obviously have no evidence other than conjecture and inference to back up my claims on, but my bet is that Brad Silberling (the film's director after Sonnenfeld left) probably had access to a few of his shot ideas and maybe even storyboards if Sonnenfeld's production ever even got that far. But like I said, nothing but inference on my part with no hard evidence to prove any of it.

Any speculation on the role of the man with the broom?

Golden woman in maze: So this person (whom I strongly suspect is Jacquelyn) is in the maze, which we earlier saw Stephano running through. We now know why she's covered in gold paint, and this further suggests that the harpoon gun scene is from TRR, and most likely taking place on board the Prospero. She also tries to enter a phonebox while tied to a tree Are you sure that's the same person? To me it looks like a different actress, but maybe it's because of her very different get up.

Any speculation on the role of the man with the broom? Well, he's at Lake Lachrymose, so my theory that he was Foreman Firstein is out the window. It looks as if Olaf's mouth movements while struggling with the man match his voiceover line "Their fortune will be mine," but I'm not sure why he would be telling this random street cleaner this, or indeed why he would be fighting a humble sweep in the first place - so maybe the guy is another volunteer? Some kind of contact for Josephine in town, or another person sent to watch over the Baudelaires like Jacquelyn? Or more simply, maybe someone Olaf needs to get rid of in order for his troupe members to take over the man's role?

Any speculation on the role of the man with the broom? I haven't spent much time on that part of the trailer yet, so I don't have any theories, but I would note that he's standing right in front of the Anxious Clown

Monty and Josephine I believe are related due to marriage rather than genetics if I am correct. Ike is white (as per the photo they are shown in the first trailer) and since he and Beatrice can whistle with crackers in their mouth; they are related.

I like the idea of Olaf killing all the volunteers who have contact with Jacquelyn (first Gustav, then the broom guy).
I'm pretty sure the golden woman confronting Olaf, pretending to be an statue and trying to get in the phonebox are the same person.
